front windshield tint

out of curiousity, how many of you miniacs have done their front window tinted on their MINI and im talking about the whole window, not just an upper tint strip. And how long have you had it for? i know it's an automatic ticket if a 5-0 catch you with front tint but would like to know how many had done it.

thanks for inputs

Some idiot on here has double 5% all around.
Tinting your windshield and ruining your night visibility is stupid and if you do it you should feel bad.

my previous mini had 37% tint all around except for the front which was perfect amount of tint for me. i 110% agree with you that it would lower the visibilty at night (which is like driving with sunglasses on) but i wanted to see if anybody had done this. and going 5% is just too dark anyway.

thanks for your input

i just saw an informative video on clear tints and those things really reduce temperature and uv rays alot better than dark tint. how do you like your clear tint so far?

MarioKart has all windows including the front window tinted dark in his awesome GP2. I rode in his car and it looks really fine. Really dark from the outside but very see-able from the inside. By the way, he isn't an idiot and the tint doesn't look stupid.

You'll be fine if you have 5% all around and 35% front windshield. My buddy has that, I've been thinking of doing it when I change my windshield in the Fall. I have 5% in the rear, 15% front, and 35% front windshield strip. It's perfect in the summer so you keep sizzling temps out out the leatherette/leather seats.

The car I'm talking about isn't a GP2, it's an R53 with two layers of 5% tint on all the windows, including the windshield. I don't think anyone can reasonably suggest that isn't a terrible idea.

you guys must not live in new england. specifically CT. anything less than 35% on anything other than the glass behind the driver seat is illegal and an automatic $140 fine.

i have 35% on my front windows, 20% on the sides and rear, nothing on the windshield. im considering a 35% strip along the top though.

I have the same on mine, as well as 5% on the sunroof. Tint on the front windows is illegal here as well, but I haven't had any trouble. 35% is really pretty light. I know people who've gone darker and been forced to scratch it off on the roadside by highway cops. What a nightmare.

im guna stick to 35% just in case, and to match the kind of "fade" i have going from the rear to the front.

the sunroof comes standard with tint as far as i know, but im working up a custom perforated vinyl design to be applied to the outside of the glass. should be pretty cool when its done.

I did a clear ceramic film on the front windshield on both the GP's and it has worked well to reduce heat in the car from sitting in the sun and doesn't effect my night driving.
I did once drive a MINI with an actual tinted windshield and would never recommend that, it was a pain at night.

i believe. i imagine this is why sunglasses were invented lol.

clear film sounds interesting though. ill keep that in mind after i get my windshield replaced. the past 10 years have not been kind to it. on a sunny day its very hard to see through all the speckles.

Well depends what sunglasses you buy. People think the $20 cheap ones work...but in reality polarized sunglasses start around $150. That's the best thing if people don't want to get tints, I have sensitive eyes so I use both my tints and sunglasses.

tickets aside, a windshield tint that reduces any amount of visible light could add a layer of complexity if you ever got into an accident...even if it wasn't your fault. I'd say stay away from it.

thats another thing here as well. if you have any sort of condition, be it eyes/skin/whatever, all you have to do is prove it to the dmv and you can have any tint.

Mario, your tint on your gp looks realllyyy good, but to me, that looks too dark to be driven at night. based on the above inputs, I will stick with 35-37% tint all around, including sunroof, and install clear tint infront.

Thanks for everyone's inputs

Not sure if i'm the idiot that dannyhavok is referring to but...Here in florida you can have darker tint on your rear windows and boot. Your side windows (doors) are suposed to be a lighter tint. I'm not sure of the % but all my side and rear windows are the legal darker tint so that makes my doors non-confirming. My windscreen is tinted the lighter shade that the doore are suposed to be. That makes my windscreen non-conforming and subject to a fine. However it does not effect my night vision, in fact it reduces glare and improves my ability to drive at night. To each his own, but if you look at the pictures it looks pretty cool!

Clear in the front is a good call. 0 visible light reduction while reducing UV.

Thanks. My back is 5%, sides 20% and front is 40%. I have HID's and HiD fogs. My car is very easy to see at night and intact it's better because there is no Glare from others cars. It only looks dark because the other windows are dark and I dark interior.
This picture is at night with only my fogs on, no headlights
