I was really thinking about buying the DuelL AG's hood for my R56 but, the price + shipping + customs made me go another way.
My hood needed painting, so I decided to make a custom modification on it in order to make it look like the DuelL AG one.
So the project started:

Hood is coming out nicely. I've been considering doing something to my hood as well. Don't like the corner of that fender cut-out... here is the way I did mine:


I gave up on my fender project, because it was just too much work, and I really missed my baby

If vented I would think it best on a track car verses a daily driver .
They will be vented, otherwise cutting open my hood would be pointless I suppose

Not correct. I've been running without any grill in my hood scoop for over a year (I'm not the only one) and that's facing forward. Through massive rainstorms with no consequences. The only effect I've seen is that the engine compartment stays cooler (both when running and when the car is parked and cooling down.Originally Posted by maxmini

These vents are no concern.

That's true as long as he keeps the fender liners in . My comment was more pointed towards the original intent of those type of vents which are to vacate wheel well pressure. In doing so you open the wheel well and all associated spin off from the tires which would not make for a good daily driver situation . The vents where they are located ,if the fender wheel well liners are left in ,will help to alleviate under hood temps to a small degree but the center mounted scoops as he has them will do much more.Originally Posted by rhygin

Having your hood scoop without a grill is non issue , i've been running mine that way for 12 years

Today I went to check on my baby, and returned with a big smile on my face.
The side parts were glued to the hood, and the owner of the shop was rounding the edges that he cut.
We are really close to the final product.







Now he's going to fill the center ducts with polyester and round 'em up a little bit.
He's going to apply some epoxy beneath the hood for the side-parts to stick right.
As of monday, car will go to the paint shop.
Hopefully I'll have my baby back by Wednesday.

The TVR Sagaris originally had vented hood slits:

but then apparently they found that debris, rock and mud would be slung up and in the production version they changed to closed, cosmetic only slits. I guess it would depend on what's underneath in the wheel arches and engine bay whether this would be a problem.
Love the Sagaris look BTW.
And I should add: neat project here on your MINI, looks very nicely done, and thanks for the detailed post!

After reading Zephyr1's post, I kinda decided not to open the vents on the hood slits.
I will have them for the looks only for some time. Because my car is daily driven, and I don't want to deal with the debris and stuff under the hood.

The center vents you have will do a good job with the under hood temps .
If you park the car outside and there is rain or when you wash the car just put a towel under each vent and it will keep most of the water off the engine. When I wash mine it helps keep water from the rear scoop from making a mess underneath.
