Aspheric mirror?

I recently purchased a left aspheric mirror from a forum member. I now see that it is curved on the main part of the mirror, so I am suspecting that it is intended for the British market on the passenger/off-side.

My question concerns the other mirror for the drivers side. Is it flat with the aspheric portion only on the outer 1/3 past the thin line?

Also, are the Gen 2 mirrors interchangeable from left to right side.....same shape and same backing, snap connector?

There are a couple types of mirrors. Aspherical mean they have a little bit of curve around the mirror. There are flat, apsherical, and asperical with blind spot. On the US market the passenger side is asperical ( mirror closer then appear phrase ) with no blind spot on the end. Flat is on the US driver side.

On the Euro side you could get the driver side - right ( RHD ) asperical without that ( closer then appear ) writing as well as the passenger side - Left ( RHD )

They have a little off a lop sided egg shape so I don't know if you can swap them.

Here are the Euro blind spot mirrors with the blind spot , aspherical, and heated. The additions to the blind spot on top of the aspherical mean that past the lines to the outside, the glass bends much more the the rate, then that of the only aspherical.

Left is a left and right in the kit.

For MINIs with the factory electrochromatic option , here are the same thing with auto dimming . * must already have that option. 8/2010+

Let me see if I can make this clearer. I think I understand your post. Just to clarify: the driver's side mirror. Is there a mirror with the blind spot section on the outer 1/3, as you show, that is not aspheric in the other 2/3?

Great,

Not that I know of. There is aspherical ( no line , no additional blind spot ) and
aspherical w/ blind spot : 1/3 outer edge curved w/ line.

Thanks

Both the Minis I've had here in Europe have had stock mirrors that look like this but are 'fake' - the mirror curvature does not increase beyond the line. Painting on the line seems to be as far as Mini go.

OK, I understand. I guess I hoped there was a blindspot solution for the drivers side other than sticking a spot mirror on the stock, flat mirror.

Your welcome.

You can get one side ( driver ) of the blind spot set if you want. If you just want our euro version in the driver side US.

Blind Spot Mirror Glass - Left ( driver side) * up side down in pic.

As you brought this back up, I will try with pictures. Is the glass flat in the area pointed out by the red arrows?

No its has a light curve through out the whole section ( just slightly ) , but its noticeable compared to the flat US version driver side, and corner the end from the line to the right has the greatest curve which is the additional blind spot section.

Thanks

Is the other side mirror of the same or more curvature in that area?

The mirror for the passenger side is the same ( mirror image ) based on curvature.

Has some curvature ( aspherical part ) :: The Line side has more curvature >

Both mirror left and right have the same curvature, they are not left and right differences, other then the shape.

Hope that helps explain it better.

Thanks

I have had the European, hemispherical mirrors on the drivers side of my last two cars. One was an XC90 and now a 2011 Mini. I like you wanted only the other portion of the mirror to be wide angle. But I never could find one. Having the drivers hemispherical is like having the same mirror as is on the passenger side except it has a line and no warning about objects being closer .

You have to get used to this since any car you see in the mirror are closer than they appear to be . Just because they look far away does not mean you can move over into the passing lane. But you do not have to worry about the blind spot. What I have learned to do is, cross check the drivers side mirror with the rear view mirror in the car. I do not move over to pass or merge without checking both of these mirrors, but I do not have a blind spot to worry about.

I do think the left mirror and right mirror is interchangeable.

I agree. After comparing the backs I think they are.

I have the ones with the blind spot and line that curves around. I have them on both the drivers side and passenger side. When I bought mine I got them from newministuff.com.
