My project this weekend will be blacking out the head light and tail light rings as well as the grill surround on my R56. I'm also going to tint the head and tail lights. Since I have to pop the rings off to plasti-dip them, I figured I'd put the tint on the lights while the rings were off. Any opinions on whether or not it will be easier or harder to lay the tint on right with the rings off?

I've had my rings off several times. It should be a lot easier to tint while the rings are off the tail lights.

Is it simply a matter of snapping off the front/rear HL/TL rings?

 

Yes. The headlight rings have small clips the are separate from the rings. You want to make sure not to break any of the clips on both sets of rings.

 

Tail lights are complicated to do on the r56 style. The curves edges make it tricky even with the rings off. Headlights seem pretty simple, but have not attempted yet.
