I think the longer antennae fits my sense of humor, it looks like an R/C car at a quick glance. And I never listen to AM, so the stubbys would work just fine.

Replaced it with a nice black screw, just to plug the hole. Keep the antenna in the trunk if I ever feel the need for AM radio.

Nope, not with a screw.

And it barely exists with one of those shorty antennae.

I lose all reception with the rear defroster on, not sure if it's related.

I just bought a shorty from the dealer and with the military discount it was about the same price as all the aftermarket and looks/works fine.

I spent .35 at my hardware store for a rounded screw... i believe it was a 5mm x 80 pitch. Dab of silicone, and it cleaned up the roofline nicely. Can take a pic if you are interested!
