Fog Lights Programming Cost?

Hello,

I have installed the front retrofit OEM fog lights on my lower bumper, wiring into the car and added the toggle switches on my 2002 MC that it did not come factory.

I asked my dealer the cost for programming the front fog. He told me that the cost would be $270 + taxes (CND) to program and encode the vehicle to accept the new front fog lights.

I am surprised to hear how expensive that cost to have it programming. Does this sound right to you and what is the average cost for the fog light to have it programmed?

Last, I asked the dealer about having the rear fog light programmed to accept the new toggle switch. My idea was to have the rear reverse fog light switch to come on so that I can check something in the rear for something at night like in the trunk and also having the reverse backup light to work as well. He said he was unsure if this will work. Has anyone had this done to make it work? He didnt say anything about the cost for programming the rear light.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

After I bought my MINI new in 2005, I retrofitted OEM front and rear fogs myself, and my dealer said they would normally charge me a half hour of labor to program them. Actually they did it for free because they did it at the same time while updating some of my programmable options (things like auto door lock/unlock, daytime running lights, etc) -- they allowed a new car buyer one free programming to change factory default settings. Actual time for all of the programming was 10-15 minutes.

So C$270 seems excessive to me.

Programming the rear fog should not cost extra. It can be done at the same time as programming the front fog.

Thanks for the reply.

I will check with my dealer again about the cost and good to know that the rear fog should be including in the price with the front fog lights to be programming.

Anyone know the average cost to be programmed?

Thanks, that sounds about right for that cost.

I contacted my dealer and he told me it still C$270+tax. I guess I will have to wait awhile or talk to a different dealer for a cost that is closer to where I live.

Hello,

Just found out another cost from a different dealer which is C$116 plus tax per hour approx 1-2 hours. Sounds better than the $270.

I was told that the rear toggle switch cannot work as well using the manual shifter.

Anyone, have any idea what I can use the spare toggle switch for? I dont like to leave the spare toggle switch out if it not going to be use for anything.

Any ideas?

That doesn't make any sense to me. They have nothing to do with each other. I have manual shift and retrofitted my rear fog with no issues. The retrofit instructions say nothing about manual shift: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t_Retrofit.pdf

I have a manual with the rear fogs working with the new toggle. I have an 05 if it matters.

It shouldn't take more than an hour. They are trying to take your money if they charge you 2 hours.

Thanks, that what I thought it didn't make sense what the dealer told me it wouldn't work with the transmission manual shifter backup white light as well having the toggle Rear Fog switch to have the white light switch on and off. Will try and talk to a different person at the dealer.

Your car has the rear reverse light on the tail lights, but not on the middle bumper? My car is a 2002 which has the rear reverse white light on the middle bumper.

I was hoping to use the rear reverse white light on the middle bumper using the new toggle Rear Fog switch and as well using the transmission manual shifter to work.

I think whoever you talked to at the dealer is confused about backup and rear fog lights on different years. For a 2002, the rear fog is the top bulb in each taillight (currently unused). They are ready to activate and all it needs is the extra switch and programming. Your backup light in the bumper will be completely unaffected. Maybe if you go over the retrofit instructions with him.

This.

You can not use your reverse as fogs unless you completely rewire everything and use an aftermarket switch.

Your dealer it's full of crap, it takes 10 minutes for them to do the coding and Indy shop is your best option sometime if you are in for some other work they could do it for free, the guy that coded my alarm and some other stuff also coded the fogs in case that wanted to install then in the future all for US 60.00 it took him about 15 to 20 minutes

Exactly. Check out your local Mini club, chances are there is a bloke/lass with knowledge and tools to help you out.

Not by overharging me for the most simple things... YOU can be the idiot that makes up for my lack of after-sale blood letting.

$270 is a gross rip-off for 10-15min but they have you at their mercy for things like programming. Unfortunately, very few indy shops have the equipment to do the programming so options are limited.

Not sure, but can you do this with a NCS setup?

Hey everyone,

I had my car done at Techmax Auto Repair Inc. Mississauga this morning for programming front, rear fog lights and the OBC.

The services was good and done quick on time. It took approximate 40 mins for $90.40. Now, I can use my both fog lights and the OBC.

I would recommend going there again compare to the dealer wanted more money and longer hours to do the work. Crazy.
