Interior/Exterior Plasti Dipped parts
IMHO.. i'd get the official blackout taillight rings so once they're done you don't have to remove the light again for touchups or repainting since the rear lights are a little cumbersome to remove.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, the fronts are super easy to remove and spray.
I understand the rears are a pain to remove and get back in.

I was. I know on my last MINI I was super careful removing parts that I replaced and saving them so I could put them back on when I sold the car and then sell the performance and "upgraded" parts... I never did and still have a garage full of old R52 parts..... Soooo, I decided it was fine tearing up the taillight trim and now I have never had to remove the whole taillights.

I have done so much dipping that I have opened my own business doing it.. Love the stuff!
The blue is there for dramatic effect. It gets people talking.. I like the contrast. Thank you for the compliments. I love the green and anthracite, but I'm already thinking about the next color.. Camo green, matte black, or another custom blue.. Cant decide!!
Crazy that car customizing has come all the way to being able to change color of a whole car for a very reasonable price and as often as you want with no negative effect on the original paint.. Haters can hate all they want, but when this stuff is properly sprayed it looks great..

That has to be tapped off after the green was down. I just taped the top and not the sides of the badge. It made a cool effect for sure. That gets a lot of compliments. It takes time and patience peeling it off.. Plasti Dip is so forgiving. I have had that front badge five different colors now..
i like the green MUCH better than the other blue color.
... a couple edge questions... do taped edges peel up clean or does the taped edge need to be cut/scored ? can multiple coats be done in a single taping without the dip getting too thick and tearing rather than peeling up as a clean edge ?
When using tape you want to peel the tape up ASAP. If the dip cures and you pull the tape, the dip is coming with it too. It's not as easy to use tape IMO...If you have an edge brake or direction change the dip will naturally separate when peeling the excess away. So ideally you want to do a nice fat coat of it but not too much as it will run and the surface finish will look different. When dipping over a layer of existing dip it pseudo re-liquefies it. So if you make sure the edge are that is taped gets a couple of heavy passes within a couple of minutes and then pull it up smoothly, but get it done soon.
I haven done the clear yet so last week I ran over to DYC.com and picked up 2 cans of glossifier and a spray bottle of BDP (brake dust pro). Works just like Sonax Full Effect, but I know it is "dip safe". I tried some Sonax on a dipped wheel and didn't have an issue, but just to be sure.

I see that you said it was not easy to use tape because its difficult to peel it without pulling the plasti dip up as well. In that case what other options would I have if I wanted to make a stripe with plasti dip?
It is not easy for beginners and it gets worse in hot days. The best thing to do is make sure your tape is set up to peel easy without burying it under every other layer. The Plasti Dip will dry quickly. You have upto 3 mins to get all the tape that touches dip off. Once you peel it back sit back, let it dry and you are good. I taped my car all at the same time but sprayed it in sections to allow for quicker peeling.
As for Brake Dust Pro. I swear by it with a pressure washer. Works great. Smells bad but works..

Not to tread on all4turbo, but for whole cars you buy a sprayer and gallons. A MINI should take 2, maybe 3 gallons I would imagine.
Dont be scared to try it
Everything you need to easily re-paint your car without the need for a lot of prep work or primer for about $300. And you can use the spray gun over and over. GREAT DEAL! and PD is so much fun because like everyone else said, it peels right off!
Also there is a new kit out where you can mix different tints to make a custom one off color, along with pearl paint and metalic paint you can do all kinds of great stuff!
Glad these guys explained it.
My car has been Grey, then it was Navy with Pearl, and then Lime with pearl and now with the stripe. It has a total of 14 coats right now. It has 1 gallon of grey, 2 Navy, 1 pearlizer , 2 lime.
I love this color combo but I'm already thinking about the next color.. :-)

(I assume that's just an effect of the photos, not so much in real life)
