Interior/Exterior mood light problem
If you're talking about the constant changing colors of the mood light. Then I believe you can toggle the switch towards the rear of the car and that will make it constant one color. Toggle a few more times backwards and it will go through the color options. There is no way to turn it off however
Last time I checked you could not turn off the mood lighting completely, you could only dim the lighting down, turn it to color you like and dim it down. . Unless something has changed.

Do you have auto headlamps or manual?
If you have auto then u need to get that checked. If you have manual headlamps make sure they are turned off since that's the same switch that activates the mood lights.

If you have to manually turn on the head lamps when it gets dark then make sure you turn them off during the day or else your Interior lights as well as your head lamps will stay on

mood lights are independant of nor controlled by the headlamp switch
When did this change my 07 mood lights are turned on once the headlamps are activated.
the mood lighting comes on when the engine start/stop button is pressed and is on until the start/stop button is pressed again
the position of the light switch has no effect on the mood lighting

Same here on a 13. I have auto headlights and no matter what the mood lights are on as long as the car is running. Harder to see during the day but still on.....
Hi everyone,
This is my second post. Just bought my first mini and also discovered that the mood lights can not be turned off. This is very distracting, usually red or blue lights behind me is not a good thing. Disabling or switching mood lights could be my first mod.

Turning it to the color matching cluster MINI orange / red and dimming it down to the lowest setting worked for me. Good luck of what works for you.

My 2008 is the same as my 2012. All lights all the time. I chose a color that is dark at night and cannot be seen in the day. My 2008 has 5 colors available and variations by holding the toggle. My 2012 has 10 colors and has variations by pulling or pushing the toggle. The color will be lighter or darker by doing this. Also the lights will continously change between all 10 colors on its own by cycling all colors. This is done by holding the toggle. At the end of cycling all colors they will flash 3 times and they will be in the continuous cycle mode.
I just Popped off both B pillar covers and disconnected the LEDs. A little tape to keep the loose ends from vibrating and the problem is solved. The other mood lights by the handles and switch are not so distracting so I won't mess with them.
To do this gently remove the B pillar light covers marked "Airbag." Remove the torx screw and then the B pillar covers by pulling gently from the top and sides. Disconnect the LED connectors using a small screwdriver to depress the tab and secure the loose wires. Button everything back up in reverse order. It shouldn't take over ten minutes.

The leds themselves don't have the capability of any other color. You have to remove the old ones and solder in replacement leds of the proper color.
Just made a discovery on my 2012 Mini about the mood lights. If you pull towards you the second from left toggle switch on the ceiling, which is the dome light switch, and hold it for a few seconds, the dome light will come on then shut off and the mood lights will turn off also! So you can turn off the mood lights if you want to. I cannot do this on my 2008 Mini though. I don't know with what year this started...after 2008 definitely.
