2011+ JCW front aero bumper removal

I have a 2012 JCW and I'm going to be removing the front aero kit to install an FMIC. I've found a few good how to's online but nothing specific to the newer aero kit. While they're somewhat similar to past kits in how they mount there appear to be a few differences, ie. brake ducts etc. if any of you guys can throw out some necessary tips to make this less painful that'd be great

Is it possible to remove this thing with the front wheels on the car? Does the car need to be on stands? Will I throw codes if I disconnect the fog lights, temp sensor and start the car? Etc etc. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My MINI is lowered about 1.2" so getting behind the wheel wells requires turning the wheels all the way left and then all the way right to have enough room to even get in behind there. This is starting to look a lot more painful than I'd hoped.

Thanks to all.

not sure about 2012 JCW Aero but I have removed the front stock bumper on my 2010 a few times. Do yourself a favor and just remove the front wheels. It will make it a lot easier.

Ya after looking at it again today I came to that conclusion. Even with the wheel cranked all the way there barely enough room to get my arm in there. Thanks for the response.

Pull your wheels off and follow previous posts on bumper removal. I did my aero bumper and it was very similar to the non aero. Good luck

Success! However for those with the 2012 JCW, there are a few difference in how it mounts. Specifically three small Phillips fasteners under the lip, that like the 'pop it' fasteners push up into a piece which splays out to hold. These fasteners are tiny and unlike any other on the car. On top of that they're plastic which means you're more than likely to destroy them in removal.
