Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if a form-fitting rubber tray exists for the center console of the R56?



Something like the R53 has:




I'm not talking about the OEM front coin tray that has been around for a while.

The one shown available at Amazon is not form fitting. You won't like it if you want a OEM look and feel.

 

I wanted the shape more than just the OEM look. It has that round shape creating 2 crevices towards the front corners. I don't necessarily put stuff there but on the R56 I have a painted console, the R55 its unpainted but I somehow manage to put stuff in there all the time.

I was at Home Depot and picked up a rubber door draft guard. It was $3.10. I was going to buy that armrest tray but I didn't want to cut it up. Plus I could make as many as I wanted in case I screwed up. I just made a round cut, threw it on a round sander and stuffed it in. It doesn't look OEM but it doesn't look completely terrible. I grabbed a set of this little bumper grips to make it look a little better and it helps things get stuck in the space between.

 

I'll make another one and see if I can make it sharper and cleaner. I beat this first piece up.

 

Why doesn't MINI make a form fitting rubber tray for this location? Sure would be a nice addition to have a factory made insert to keep something like a cell phone in place there... :-(
