I think it’s obvious by now that it’s too big, too gawdy as it stands now and as MSFITOY has said... “it looks like bathroom fixtures” for the pedestals.

Having said that, since you’re willing to DIY, you could take the spoiler and cut the length down, that would be easy. The biggest thing to fix is the god awful mounting system. Obviously they bolt to the spoiler so they’re removable.

If they’re removable, they’re replaceable with something more modern, more subtle.

I wouldn’t discount the spoiler completely if you’re willing (and it sounds like you are) to modify it a tad.

Start looking for mounting brackets and you could make that something you’d like.

Here’s what I would do....

1) cut the length.

2) remove the ends and use metal ends made from billet aluminum or SS. (you may even want to paint the ends the color of the car while leaving the spoiler black.

3) Find some nice mounting brackets.

I think if you take the time to play with it, you could make it what you want...

Just as long as it doesn’t look like this when it’s done.

These spoilers are kinda bad @ss!

http://stores.ebay.com/fastlaneusast..._sid=725945671

perhaps too hokey for the cooper, but still neat!

i may try to do something similar, only more tasteful... how come there isnt a rip-off GP spoiler yet?!

I did see this spoiler but it looked like it was made of wood! Currently I'm searching the freewyas as cars drive by to see what might fit from another car. Failing that I might make my own modeled on the WRC spoiler.

what, you dont think the concept of a Clear lexan spoiler is cool?! yes, i kinda like the "fast and furious" style, to a degree.

i dont think there is Enough clear stuff on cars IMO. i think this is a cool concept, and again, if done proper, could look good. Plus, lexan is easily obtainable, and while not the easiest stuff to work with, if done correctly you can end up with some neat stuff.

nothing wrong with trying to be different!

Orranje Performance out of the UK makes one

And Fubrication makes one...I have seen in person, and its pretty identical to the real GP wing.

Nope, nothing wrong with it at all. As long as you like it, who cares what anyone thinks. I was merely giving my opinion but you know what they say about opinions....

Now, that is what started the spoiler craze for me. I really like that look and when I buy another R53 (almost got one the other day, missed the deal by a day) that will be the one I get.

WELL OVER 2K. I was getting a discount by a dealership GM and my cost was still like 2300 bucks. They are expensive as hell.

Those are two good inspirations. For me, I went big.

M7 Tuning Carbon Fiber C-Wing.

I was inspired by the MINI Challenge Car. Plus, I wanted to make my '09 Astro Black MCS uniquely different.

I think you should buy the wood once from Chauncey, then have it treated for termites.
Okay, but seriously, I do have a dual-plane on my Pontiac GP and it looks pretty good, some people give me the : thumbs-down-rice : and some say it looks quite good. I have had it on there for about 12 yrs and so I was in my mid-30s when I mounted it, if I was doing it today, with that car, especially being a sedan, I would prob tone it down a bit but I dont hate it by any means. It definitely attracts tons of attention, with the 18" wheels, yellow calipers, mega-metallic blue paint, dual plane wing and Flowmaster 40s.
The Coopers are kinda "cartoon-ie" to begin with, so I think it would be fine, it should look very much like a GP (MINI GP that is, not Pontiac GP ) Do what you like, your the one who has to drive it.
