Messed up factory rear license plate bracket and what I did about it
So we wanted to put a license plate cover on the rear of the CM, and when I removed the four screws holding the temp plate on, I was quite shocked at what i saw. Looks like the dealer used two long screws on the right side and two short screws on the left. This caused them to dig in to the rear bumper.
I also noticed that the bracket was all chewed up from the screws. I had no idea how the bolts for our plate cover were going to attach to this crappy plastic frame, and to top it off I could barely get the screws to bite enough to hold the paper temp plate back on! Check out these pics.

The solution was simple: I went to the dealer and picked up the factory rear bracket for the R56. This is a plastic bracket, but it uses metal inserts for the four license plate bolts and has brass inserts for the bolts that hold it to the car. Cost about $20 and I used M6 hardware but it was a bit too big for the brass pieces, so I suggest you use M5 or similar which was bout $3 at home depot.
To remove the stock bracket there are two silver torx screws in the center and two of those plastic push rivets on the bottom corners. I used the correct tool for the screws and just yanked on the frame to get the pop rivets out, otherwise you can get inside the bumper and push the center pin out of them and they'll come right out.
I put a license plate frame on the new bracket and bolted it in with it adjusted all the way up. Then I lined it up on the bumper and marked where my new bolts are going to be. I drilled the holed with a bit that matched my bolt size and attached it using the stainless steel bolt, flat washer, split washer, and finally the nut. Should be good to go until the rest of the car falls apart now
The first pic is the backside of the original bracket. It's all messed up from the screws.. The second pic is the nice new R56 one.
