From what I've read the Whalen is the best. Does anyone have the Voodoo know? http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/*****.html I met a guy last night with an S2000 and he said he loves the Voodoo, he said it was around $75.

Although Voodoo ***** look very similar to Whalen's and quite a bit cheaper, Whalen caters specifically to MINI and BMW cars with custom designs and logos. I don't know how well the Voodoo will fit on the MINI.

You picked the wrong board for an unbiased opinion. I think there is a large majority here who love the Whalen ****. I love mine and haven't found a **** like it. If Doug builds a handbrake lever I will be in heaven. The feel of the Whalen and specifically the weight is great. It is much heavier than the stock and gives it an added feel.

I had a titantium Voodoo **** on my S2000. It was very nice and much better than the stock AL ****. Titantium is very dense and makes for a very heavy ****. Voodoo specialized in Miata ***** and we (S2K owners) persuaded them to create a **** for the S2K. Much like the Whalen is to MINI's the Voodoo is to the S2K. I wouldn't knock either ***** since they are both of excellent quality. My MCS is due next month and I planned on buying a Whalen, but it would be nice to see somone else produce a quality **** for the MINI.

Although titanium is about twice as dense as aluminum, stainless steel is about 3 times a dense as aluminum. My Whalen **** weighed in at just over 500 g.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread, but i decided to ask my wonderful dad for help on figuring out a way to put my beloved Voodoo **** in my MINI. And , well... he found a way... that i'm still trying to clean up

We just popped the old **** off, and drilled three set screws into the voodoo **** right above the stainless collar, and i just screwed them into the plastic that holds the stock ****. I need to move the shift boot up so it doesn't look so goofy, but you get the idea. The shifts have cleaned up SO well, and i love how tiny my **** is. Since i haven't driven a mini with a Whalen, i can't say how much different that is... but i love my voodoo

Also, excuse the messy mini

If i find out how to take the plastic part off, we may just thread the Voodoo onto the shaft.

How did we both search for this forum and post at about the same time?

You were the first person i thought of when my dad offered to help me find a way to get it on there . Once i get the shift boot moved up i'll take more pictures... and if anyone knows how to take that plastic off it'd help too.

Like i said before, pull the stock **** off (or get your dad to if you're as weak as i am ) drill three set screws right above the stainless collar, put the voodoo **** on the plastic pushing it down as far as it will go. It doesn't have any play, but you just screw the set screws in as far as you can. Since the boot is zip tied on, i need to get that off and move it up. I'd LIKE to shorted the throw by taking off that plastic and screwing the voodoo on the shaft... but that'll have to wait.

Sucks i kept the **** in immaculate condition, and the person at the parts counter when my dad was picking up the screws dropped the **** and put a chip in it. Dangit! But i'm glad i have my pretty sparkly little **** back.

I'm just curious as to why the Voodoo **** doesn't slide down farther on the lever.

Is the hole in the **** not deep enough, or is it just too tight on the lever?

Fits perfect on the plastic... until it gets tighter for the threads near the top of the ****.

Let me know if you'd like it bored out, so it'll sit down lower.

"heavy" shift *****

In the old days with my TR-3, it was determined that heavy shift ***** were causing some premature wear in the gearbox. Any one have an opinion if this might be a problem with our MINIS ?

I've got a Voodoo on my Miata. Very nice shift ****. If he sold one that would fit the MINI without redoing the mounting I'd buy it. The Whalen looks so good though. I may have to come up with a design for one.

i posted a while back a quote from VooDoo bob about the added expense of making the ***** for the MINIs & BMWs with the attachment set up that comes from the factory. Bottom line was that it costs too much....

However, if there was a common thread pitch for a lot of the after-market SSKs, I would not doubt that he would cut one...

Not to knock the Whalens (never tried one)....it's just that my Voodoo is the only thing i kept form my miata after 8 years of ownership!

I fixed the boot last night, just moving it up and tucking it under the ****. Looks better, but it's still too long. It's still really smooth shifting, but i want to get the plastic off and lower it.

And what does bored mean? lol.

I can make the hole bigger, so that the **** will slide down into its normal seated position.

Should take me about five minutes.

Not a problem, as far as I know. In the old Brit sports cars, the shift linkage was attached directly to the gearbox. Pressing down on the **** could actually cause some wear inside the box. (I remember my wife's Austin Healey mechanic showing us some wear on one of the little doohickey's in a Healey box and telling us that's what happens when you rest your hand on top of the **** at stoplights!)

But under the MINI's shift ****, there's just a bunch of cables that go around to the gearbox which is w-a-y over there somewhere. Shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. )

All the same, having said that, I still try to never rest my hand on top of the ****.

whalen rocks!

I bought mine before my mini arrived.

I used the stock **** for about a week before I switched it out.
That was one week too long

The added heft makes shifting smooth, and really easy to get past the Reverse gate/detent.
