JCW Steering Wheel Differences

My CM comes in on Friday (fingers crossed) and I've been considering getting the JCW Steering Wheel as one of my first mods. I'm trying to figure out the differences in the JCW Steering Wheel options. As I see it there are 3 options.

1. Leather with red stitching
This appears to be the stock JCW replacement wheel.

2/3. Leather/Alcantara or All Leather

I know #2/3 are the same wheel, just different materials. My question is whether or not #1 is as big (thick) and as soft (padded) as the others. Does anyone know if the carbon fiber inserts will fit in #1?

The alcantara wheel and shift **** combo is pretty awesome, I just wish it had the red stitching!

Thanks in advance!

#1 is just the stock wheel with red stitching. It is not as thick or padded as #2/3. Yes, the carbon fiber inserts are interchangeable between all of the steering wheels.

Thank you! I guess I'll have to go with the Alcantara wheel!! I just wish it had the nice red stitching.

I have the stock JCW red sticking wheel in my JCW Coupe. I really wanted a JCW alcantara wheel but after checking out the one they had at the dealership I changed my mind. Firstly, in my opinion, the alcantara is in the wrong spot. It should be used at the 9 and 3 oclock so the placement is nearly useless to me. Second, it didn't feel much if any thicker than the standard red stitch wheel that came with my car. Just a bit softer and perhaps it seemed thicker because of that. What I really wanted was the CF inserts but those are sold seperately. All told the cost was insane so I passed and spent the money on other mods instead.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool looking wheel. Especially in alcantara, but I think they should have covered the whole wheel in it.

I'd like to get a JCW wheel with red stitching to match the red seat trim.

Has anyone swap a JCW steering wheel onto a S that has paddleshifters?

If you do a search I believe there are a couple threads where some guys modded their JCW steering wheel to be compatible with paddle shifters. It took some effort and involved cutting the back of the wheel to fit the shifters. It can be done though.

I'll see if I can find the links!

EDIT: Here ya go:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-shifters.html

There are also a couple threads on another "not to be mentioned" MINI forum if you do a google search. Hope this helps!

If all you want is the carbon fiber the overlays from CarbonMINI are gorgeous.
