I need to carry three bikes on my wife's Clubman. I'm looking at the OEM rack base kit (I don't have roof rails) and probably three of the fork-mount holders (where you remove the fron wheel). I have two small road bikes for my wife and daughter, and one medium road bike for me. I'm also thinking about the "touring bike holder" where the fromt wheel stays on. They are both the same price so it's really just a matter of finding a setup that works.

Is anyone else using a setup like this?

 

I have the official MINI base rack and RockyMounts Euro Pitchfork bike trays. They're cheaper than the MINI fork-mount trays, more aerodynamic, and are available in 9 different colors. Anyway, here's a pic of my car below with the setup I'm talking about. I only have two trays, but I'm almost positive that a 3rd tray could fit facing backwards between the other two in order to stagger the handlebars. You'll just want to put the smallest bike in the middle and maybe shorten the tray so it doesn't hang over the windshield too far.

The Euro Pitchfork is $98 on Amazon right now ( http://www.amazon.com/Rocky-Mounts-1.../dp/B003DKQ36Y ) and I could get white to match my wife's car, which looks almost exactly like the one next to yours in the pic, except ours is a Clubman.

Do I need one lock core per mount, or more than that? I think they are included with the Mini OEM bike racks (not 100% sure though) but they are about $9 each for the Rocky Mounts. Even with that it's still about $50/mount cheaper this way than with the MINI mounts.

EDIT: My wife reminded me that MINI white is not the same as the mount's white, so I ordered black instead!

As far as locks go, on each mount, there is a slot for two locks. You don't HAVE to put a lock in either slot, but you CAN. There's a slot to lock the tray to the car, and a slot to lock the quick-lock level "closed" so no one can remove your bike. I bought two locks for each tray, but like I said, you can have 0, 1, or 2 locks per tray... it's up to you.

Yeah, the White on my trays pretty much matches the roof on my MINI, but you're right... the white trays wouldn't match the "Pepper White" body color.

 

Got the base rack and three black Euro Pitchforks. Fitted it all today and it looks great, and is fairly quiet, at least up to 50mmph which is all we tested it at.

Had to fit the centre bike backwards so the handlebars didn't interfere. Pics attached, thanks for the help!
