Interior/Exterior R53 - Where to secure weapon???
R53 - Where to secure weapon???
I have looked through other threads with no luck, so here goes. I'm and officer with the Kennebec County Sheriff's office and drive a 2004 R53 with non-lockable glove box. I am looking for advise or options that other's have had luck with on where to keep my weapon when off duty and not concealed (IE going into the post office or my boy's schools). Any advise on a brand gun safe that fits in the cooper's?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
I believe you can retrofit your non-locking glove box with a locking onefor about $210 in parts.
You need the box, and a keyed lock. Might be more to spec the key to your other locks.

I have seen that option, and it might be my only one at this point. However I was hoping for something more sturdy or "fire/tamper proof" then a glove box. Thanks for the link though, might be my only option and will help.

I thought I was the only one who was wondering this. I've got my CCW permit, and I would love to find a good place to leave my CCW weapon on my car while at work, or while I'm going to other places that I can't carry.
So car...I haven't really found any good places that are secure...and concealed.

In the right rear compartment. It was cabled into the fender of the car, so you'd have to find it, cut the cable, or break it open. Was it perfect? Probably not -- but it's better than most people do. The stock cover closed perfectly, btw.
I suppose it would be possible to have a custom made box made that would fit under the front seat, be screwed down to the floor pan, not interfer with seat motions, and have a flip down, locking front cover to slip the weapon into. Have it lined with felt or something. 'Gotta get creative, though.

Hope this helps... I have used Tuffy products in Jeep Wranglers. Top down and doors off poses a security nightmare especially when trying to conceal a P220.
The above link is universal application. I would try to fit under the passenger seat.

Are you looking for a legal place to store your firearm?(re read your op) any who You could rip your knee bolster out, get a old or new kydex holster and mount it to reverse. Its pretty easy to remove and open at will. with a pull tab at the bottom of the steering column could work nice. could easly hook up a lockable latch in this location as well.

Back to the OP... What about a lock box next to the battery in the boot? I don't think you'll find anything made to fit the MINI would probably be generic.
You need to live in Tennessee. This is a common sight. Also, I was stationed at Loring AFB, Me along time ago and remember seeing this. I think they used them to shoot the "Black Flies". Just kidding.
How big is gun u want to conceal? Here is my plan, but I haven't done it yet: The panel right below the steering wheel is actually hinged at the bottom and snaps in place at the top. Nobody would suspect that you have a gun attached to the back side of that. It could be accessed in a hurry.
In the mean time I have just been putting a sig 226 in a padded dell mini computer case and dropping it right in the door pocket. The black case is pretty hidden down inside the door pocket, and if someone did see it, They would not think it was a gun.

I live in texas, so the laws are a little more lenient, but I've found that the foot well behind my passenger seat holds my AR pretty well on the way to the range. I suppose if you wanted to really lock it down, a decent cable lock or lock box cabled underneath the seat bolts, or the bar that the seatbelt attaches to at the floor, would be pretty damn secure
