I think the dealer snuck in a heat shield when they replaced my last hood scoop. 2nd time it has been replaced. I dont remember it being there before. Has anyone seen this before. Maybe its been there the whole time.

 

That looks like the OEM heat shield (the silver part). The black part seems to be on some older cars from the factory. My JCW has neither. Unless you got a chrome scoop when you took delivery (they warp easily and must be installed w/ shield), the dealership probably added it in there when the last one warped.

Coincidentally I took a pic of mine this morning so I could compare online - no heat shield so will probably add it later:

I am getting my hood scoop replaced in a couple of weeks and the SA told me they were going to install a heat shield and insulating material to prevent the new scoop from warping.

 

They replaced mine just before Christmas. Dealer added the exact same heatshield under the hoodscoop. SA said this is OEM part and is now mandatory when replacing warped scoop

I'd be interested to know if new cars arrive with this shield. Anyonw with a 2012 S can check?

 

Nope, my Oct build 2012 car doesn't have it. Kind of bummed. I don't want to deal with melting a scoop just to get the heat shield.

Saw it on Outmotoring and thought it someone wanted to they could add it themselves.

 

That is the same part as offered by the dealership. I will be installing it eventually before spring time.


My 2012 JCW does not have the heat shield either. Unless you had a dealership installed chrome scoop before you took delivery, you shouldn't expect a heat shield from the factory.
