Has anyone installed an alarm system that isn't OEM? I'm looking to get the Clifford Matrix, but I know I don't need the remote start since I have a manual transmission. What's the top of the line model right now?

I don't want to pay $300 plus installation for an alarm.

 

I guess if you don't want to pay $300 + install ($500 total usually) for the
factory one, you can go to CircuitCity and have them install a cheep DEI one
for like $250 installed. :smile: but then, your MINI warranty for eletronics will be
affected...according to the MA.

Why don't you install the factory one yourself and have the dealer program
it for like $80 or so? hr of labor. $380 installed. :smile:

 

My motoring advisor recommended an aftermarket system made by AudioVox, called the Pursuit. The unit plus installation came to $299. It works as seamlessly as the OEM model, both the key and the remote arm and disarm it. I can trigger the panic mode w/ my remote. It has audible signals in addition to the light flashes, which can be disabled if desired. When it's armed, there is a small blinking LED installed on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It has a hidden button for disabling the system, which requires the key. For another $100, I can add proximity alert, but I don't want that level of sensitivity. It gives a rapid series of 4 beeps to warn anyone who is messing about. In a year's time, I've had zero false alarms. I've got a new MINI ordered for later this year, and will have the same system installed when it gets here.
