What does the red plastic on the top of the tachometer do? I've been curious for a while. I'm the third owner of my mini cooper S so please enlighten me.
Thanks!
It's the light for the factory alarm. No factory alarm...no blinky...
Except there are threads on here about how to make it blink even though you don't have the factory alarm. Now all I need is to find someone local to me who can code!!!!!

Very true...just speaking "off the lot" for no blinky, and explaining why his does nothing right now except make him wonder.
To get it to blink you have 3 options. Buy the OEM Alarm system. Reprogram the car yourself with your computer. Or have someone with the right equipment to safely reprogram it on for you. I opted for option 3 and had Way from Way Motor Works reprogram my car to utilize it. The light and everything is already there, it just needs to be told to turn itself on. Way has a program where he does several modifications to the ECU, like one-touch sunroof, seatbelt chime off, lights flash when locked, etc.. and the alarm flash is one of those things.
