Shift **** removal on an '11?

Has anyone replaced the shift **** on a Countryman? Or on an '11 MCS for that matter. We have a CF M7 **** for the CM but can't figure out how to get the **** off. On the Gen1 you just had to pull REALLY hard straight up, but the Gen2 is apparently not the same way.
Any advice would be appreciated,

Annette

You have to take the boot off first.

On my 2011 JCW I just had to pull up really hard. I almost hit myself in the face.

I pulled on my 2011, not too hard and it was done... Just be sure to release the bottom (metal trim ring)...

You should get a short shifter and get one of these weighted shift *****. http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/
Weighing in at 320 grams these things are nice for shifting. I am on my second one. I bought one for my last car and sold it when I got the MINI. Wish the made a short shifter for the MINI though.

Problems here too. How hard doyou have to pull?
Whats the easiest way to get the ring off? Take the whole console out or is there a way to pop it up?

You should probably take the center consol out. It will make getting the boot off on the bottom a lot easier. And pull super super hard with both hand. It will come off.

I just put in my momo shift ****, by merely pulling up on the old shift **** and it came off easier than expected... only problem is the plastic sleeve that is inside the old shift **** appears to be the piece that held the shifter boot up... any suggestions?
