Interior/Exterior Replacing shift knob, need help

Replacing shift ****, need help
Has anyone replaced the shift **** on their Countryman? Or on an '11 MCS for that matter. We have a CF M7 **** for the CM but can't figure out how to get the **** off. On the Gen1 you just had to pull REALLY hard straight up, but the Gen2 is apparently not the same way.
Any advice would be appreciated,
