iPad Mount Version 2

Here is my second attempt at an iPad mount for the center rail.
This time utilizing a stock MINI rail accessory base attachment.
While it fits & slides on the center rail in an "OEM Like" fashion, I regret to report that it is NOT as sturdy the first version I assembled. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...nter-rail.html It's very "shaky".
This confirms to me that MINI rail accessory design needs to be redeveloped
if they intend it to last or have any value to customers in the future.
This is not to say that some adjustments could be made to my mod, but the weak point is where the base top
with the rubber feet meets the base bottom.
When snapped together, there is a spongy space that creates an issue for heavier items with a higher center of gravity.
My conclusion is the complete RAM mount solution is much sturdier.

Too bad because I think it looks pretty cool

Nice job and effort Miniaturize!
I agree with your conclusion as well as far as the spongy play in the rail base.
I found the same when working with some conversions.. The Ram products are a much sturdier and better quality. Still though... Great Work

Thanks Flyer53!
I may try to attach the RAM ball right to the base attachment & NOT use the top portion with the rubber feet. It won't look as finished, but it should prove to be sturdier & will slide as intended. I like the fact that the mount can go all the way to the end of the rail, the kids have a blast with Air Hockey!
I have another full cup holder assembly on order so I can feel free to take the rail base apart & figure out the possibilities

Nice work MINIATURIZE. Appreciate you pioneering all of these attempts.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but thought I'd add the link here too if anyone is interested. RAM does make a cup holder solution as well.

bentyyc, that cup holder solution would be interesting using one of the front cup holders, but placed in a rail attached cup holder I think, from the image of the mount, the iPad may be up too high & unstable. Not sure.
I definitely considered it though & having some fun messing with this stuff, Thanks!

Yeah, I agree. I would have preferred if they offered the cup solution with the solid arm/ball joint like you tried, as opposed to the flexi gooseneck.

Ah, the fun of experimentation. Thanks again for all of your efforts!
