Headrest options

I've gotten tired of having to take my wife's SUV everywhere we go due to her complaints about the headrests in the MINI. Have tried and tried to find a seating position where they don't make her uncomfortable, but she asserts they protrude too far forward for her. Additionally, have tried using a rear headrest in front (stuck just as far forward, if not more) and turning the front headrest around (angles backward, offering no support at all and an odd angle if you lean your head back).

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so what you did to solve it. Am considering taking the passenger headrest to an upholstery shop and having them modify it, but I'm sure even for a small job like that they're going to want a good chunk of change. Wondering if R50/53 headrests have the same post spacing / will fit an R55/56 - they appear to not protrude past the front of the seat and can be had fairly cheaply all day long.

Thoughts / suggestions?

Anyone know if the headrests from an 07 R56 fit the newer models? They don't extend forward like the new ones.

RealOEM lists 4 part numbers with varying years specified for the lounge leather option I checked. No idea if the spacing is the same though.

They do fit. That was the first mod that I did to my 2011 Cooper S.

My wife also complains about the headrests, and cannot find a comfortable spot. Haven't found any solution, although really haven't looked too hard, as it means she won't rush out and drive it

Gosh, I think the headrests are perfect! How are you sitting?
I have the seat tipped back for a straight armed, more or less, driving style.

Dave: I love the seats... Not sure what's wrong with my wife.

4nscdoc: Which are you referring to that fit: the 1st gen headrests or those off an '07?

Minidrivr: Wondering if they changed them mid-year, or if it was just on certain interior colors that they were different... Did a Google search and some pics seem to show '07 interiors with the standard/newer R56 "protruding" headrests, while a few do seem to have the flatter ones you refer to.

I have the same problem... never can quite seem to get comfortable with my '10 headrests. I always feel like my head is too far forward. It's possible my own height may have something to do with it -- a doctor told me once that people over 5'7" or so tend to have more spine alignment issues and particularly dislike having the head pushed forward. I love my Mini too much to let that be a deal killer, though!!! But if an earlier model's headrest would do the trick, I'd happily swap 'em! Anybody got pics of such a swap?

I don't know. My 07 is an August build. It has black lounge leather and the headrests aren't the oversized ones.

What type/color seats do you have?
