2011 Head Unit Stainless *****

About 2 years ago, my father and I made a set of ***** for my other car and now that I have a Mini, I figured that we should make them for this car as well. I've always liked the solid feel metal ***** and the rubber ones in the Mini had to go.

Much better now!

EDIT: Oops, posted in the wrong forum. I'll contact a mod to move it.

Thanks! Not very hard to remove. If you have grippy fingers, they come out. Otherwise, wrap them in a paper towel and pull them out with a pair of pliers (the paper towel is to not mark the rubber).

Pretty cool, did you machine them?

They are machined indeed. My father is a craftsman and I come up to him with all kinds of ideas. We've made ***** and gauge rings. I'd love to buy a lathe and learn to use it but I'd rather use the garage to store my project car for the time being.

Unless you have your own lathe, DIY is gonna be tricky! At this point, it'd probably be looked down upon if I started to sell these. I'll get in touch with the powers that be and discuss a limited run of these if there's enough interest (10 sets minimum).

Well, count me in if costs aren't too high.

Count me in as well. These are much more usable than the smaller rubber *****. If it's an easy swap out, excellent!

I'd be in for these. Might I suggest an o-ring in that groove? It adds a nice finish and tactile feel IMO.

Any chance you can make some black ones? If so, I'm in.

RealOEM doesn't still have the 2011 models, so I can't compare part numbers to see if they'd match. I'll ask for the part number at the dealership when I stop by this week to have something looked at.

Pretty unlikely at this point. The best way to make them black would be to anodize them, but the process would ruin the PVC on the inside that's holding them to the head unit.

I had tried this with previous ***** and I wasn't a big fan. However, it may be cool with these *****, since they're of a slightly different design. I'll make a set and get back to you guys on this one.

Also, who would I have to reach in order to discuss this? I'm not seeing any mods or head honchos around. Would the "contact us" form suffice?

You should make Mercedes-Benz replacement *****, many of the older Nav systems have missing buttons.

If they were anodized in black, I'd want a pair too.
