Any suggestions for aftermarket rally type auxiliary lights (Fog & Driving), with or without mounting bar, for my new Cooper S? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Having the same dilema. Looking at Mini-Madness Brackets (definately), their lights, possiblke CIBIE Oscar +, Cibie Tango, or KC Slim lites all in chrome, black is easy to find

So far I favor Mini-Sport's Light Bar setup the most, but I'm debating on light types.
I think chrome aux. lights give a better retro rally appearence. Mini-Sport has chrome lights available in both driving and clear fog types, but I'm not too sure about their quality and reliability. Has anyone installed the Mini-Sport's Light Bar Package with the four 6" diameter aux. lights? I've also been looking at the Hella's FF type lights. Also, can anyone tell me what Mini-Sport's Angel Halo Aux. Lights do that other lights don't? It appears that a red, blue or white 'halo' is illuminated around the edges of the lense. What is the purpose for this 'halo'?

Cheers.

I recently (November) put a pair of PIAA Platinum 1000 driving lights (they shine far ahead, not wide and low) on my MCS 2003. I made my own mounting brackets from 1.5" x 0.125" aluminum, from the hardware store. I used a plumber's torch to anneal the aluminum a bit to make bending easier and smoother, and used 3 pop rivets (3/16" dia.) each to attach them to the aluminum bumber beam. I just made a simple "L" bracket, drilled three rivet holes and one bolt hole (for the light mount) and they were finished. Easy. I had to remove my front clip (far easier than anticipated: I suck at working on cars!) and located the lights at the outer corners of the lower grill. I made my own aluminum mesh grill as part of this project, but that isn't necessary, and is very difficult with this particular material. I am working on getting a more forgiving material sourced. The lights work EXTREMELY WELL, and the mounts are rock solid. If you are handy, I recommend this technique. Feel free to email me with questions, at THIS ADDRESS: lek@d2.com . I don't visit this forum often enough to host replies here. I live in West Los Angeles, if you want to have a look, and I wil try to post a pic or two with this message. The wiring was really easy, and the relay switch is keyed off of my parking lights.

I installed the PIAA kit last weekend on my '04 MCS. It's an excellent quality kit and I'm quite pleased with the output of the lights. I still need some time driving behind them before I reach my final opinion. My only complaints:

The harness is too long. I used the standard 540 kit with the 30300 Mini Cooper specific bracket and harness extension kit. The harness extension runs from the lights across the hood and into the engine compartment. The harness from the 540 kit then plugs into the extension. The kit harness has the power, ground, relay and switch connections. For my installation it could have been significantly shorter (at least a couple of feet shorter). I don't know if this is a problem with the 5430 kit, which is lights and brackets combined in one box specifically for the Mini Cooper.

Installing the light brackets would have been easier if I had had the hands of a 5 year old child.

I do have a question: can I use the lights with the grills/covers in place, or do I need to remove them? If I find out an official answer I'll try to remember to post an update here.

I have these too....yes, long harness but it was easy to hide it all. If you open up the bonnet now you won't see a wire anywhere! It's all tucked behind the metal under the bonnet and behind the protective cover...then the rest is neatly tied up at the far corner (that would be near the drivers side) with the cable running to the high beam neatly tied to existing wires so you really can't see anything.

I keep the covers off as I find they hinder the beam. Great lights!
