Rear View Mirror Modification Easy?

Now that my side mirror checkered caps are installed, I REALLY want the matching rear view mirror cover! However, no one makes the one that will fit the mirror with the Universal (3 button) Garage Remote option. I am told you can diy with a dremel. Anyone out there attempted this? My husband is pretty handy and has the tool, but I don't want to spend the money, only to find its near impossible to modify it to fit. My dealership has one on a showroom mini with the button cutout to fit, but they will not do this for a customer...grr...

Thanks for any advice or experience with this issue!!

Just an fyi in case you didn't know, but the rear view mirror cover isn't as easily swappable as the outside mirrors. Its stuck on with sticky. I got blackjacks right after I got my Clubman Rally Edition, then decided to go back to my Rally green mirror caps...stuck with the blackjack rearview mirror cap though since it was stuck on with adhesive. If I pull it off and go back to my black one, I'll probably have a mess of sticky to clean off, and I am not sure how I'd ever be able to use the blackjack one again.

Well if you have seen it done then it can be done. The Mirror is VERY easy to remove, I am sure you can find it in the how to area. Just tape the area to be cut with masking tape, draw your line then cut. Should not be too tough. Finish the edge with some sand paper to smooth the edge.

Be sure to post pics when you are finished.

Yea, hubby did an awesome job replacing side mirror caps(he is a ATM TECH) so pretty confident he can figure it out.

Thanks so much for quick reply!

You don't need a dremel for the rear view mirror cover. Measure, tape off the area to cut and use an exacto knife. So easy, a caveman can do it!

I guess I am assuming the mirror cover is the same very thick plastic that the side mirror caps are made of. Since this is just a cover, they are probably thinner(?) ..just guessing....so then, yes, I need a caveman to do it...
