Mood lighting

Is there any way to add the same led mood lighting colors to the footwells? I mean i have leftover leds from doing my bike but they are just red and I want the footwells to glow the same colors as the other locations.
Sorry if this was already covered.

Anything can be done but this is not an easy thing to do. It would require purchase of a few of the LED modules for some part (b pillars, overhead console etc) then custom wiring is going to be needed to each of the foot wells from either the B-Pillar or the overhead console to make them work. That means lot of the car has to come apart to get the sire run.

But yes it could be done. Is it worth the cost of possibly having rattling panels or the time to do it - That is up to you.

I am also interested in doing this. From the research I've done, I've found that you'll have to connect them directly to the battery so that you don't use up your cig lighter. Or, if you don't have a use for the cig lighter, just make sure you unplug the plug before you get out of the car..
My friend did this on his Mustang and he said it isn't too hard, but it's not easy, so I guess it just depends.

I dont mind taking the the interior apart, its not that difficult. Wiring is a peice of cake, I've wired up engine push starts in a few cars so it cant be that hard.
Thanks for the assistance.

Probably the best LED module to use would be the ones for the overhead console. they are actually a little brighter (at least in my 08) than the ones in the pillars.

The older versions are only 5 colors and run on three wires. As for the ones in your 2011 there are alot more colors and I am not sure how many wires they run on.

If you do the install please do a write up on it so that others can benifit from your expertise on this.

If he was to do as you say and connect them directly to the battery then there would be no way for him to do as he wants and have teh colors change with the other mood lighting.

As for single color LEDs those would be best wired to the cigarette lighter electrical as that goes on and off with the car.

If I do find an overhead console with the leds I would wire them up to the existing leds in the b-pillar and run them to the footwells so they can change color and turn off with the car.

Ah good point. I want to get some single color red LEDs in the footwells, but only while I'm driving.. I know they sell red LED strips at AutoZone (aka car parts store in Memphis), and switches.. How could I go about wiring it to the cigarette lighter? I'd still want a toggle switch, though..

Your best bet would be to use a fuse tap on fuse F42 and then just wire up a switch where ever you want. There should be a ground point below the fuse box under the side foot well cover.

http://www.oznium.com/prewired-surface-mount-led

I bought some LED's for my wife's H3. It had terrible interior lighting. They were inexpensive and easy to install (positive/negative connections). I used the "prewired surface mount LEDs". I got the warm whites because I didn't want the harsh brightness the super white style puts out. Easier on my wifes eyes. This summer I'm going to put in some more lights because it made a huge difference.
I also put the blue color in the footwells (front/rear) and hooked them up to the fog light switch. Really cool but I wouldn't go with anything brighter. These are perfect brightness.
I'm kind of afraid to start taping wires in the Mini though. They have some odd wiring schematics, but I'm sure it can be figured out.

First you need a fuse tap (available from any auto parts store) like these.
http://www.amazon.com/Wirthco-30800-.../dp/B000CQDRTI

They have to be for Mini Fuses (mini as in small not MINI)

Second you need some push connectors (also available at auto parts store)

Third is some wire and a switch.

Forth you need the LED's or LED strips you are going to use.

Tools required will be a drill, some pliers and a screwdriver or two and maybe a Torx driver depending on exactly where you want the LED's to be

From there it is just wiring it up. I could write this down in 100 different ways and you may or may not understand what I mean. So i think your best bet is to find a MINI Club near your location. One of the members there will know exactly how to do what you need done and can assist you in getting it done.

BTW you should finish filling out the info on your profile so you location will show up in the posts at the top right corner as mine does.

And where are you located?
