Ok, this may be a dumb question, but what color of white is the roof of minis with a white roof? Is it pepper white or is it a totally different white?

I'd like to get a spray can of white that matches the roof. Any suggestions?

 

I think it is a white that is only used on the roofs and mirrors. I have seen pepper white and it seems thats not a pure white like the roof is one my BRG II MCS

 

I thought it seemed too bright to be pepper white... If anyone knows what the proper color is and where to get a spray can of it, I would appreciate it.

 

I can probably get the paint code off of my build sheet. Should be able to paint at the dealer I would imagine.

It is a BMW color called Aspen White I dont remember the paint code but any place that mixes automotive paint could get it for you.

 

I think it's called Alpine White. expresspaint.com has the paint code listed as 300. You can also order spray paint in that color direct from that website.

I've never understood why, if they can paint the roof and mirrors white, they can't paint the rest of the car white. If I could have had real white instead of Pepper White, I would have been all over it.

 

Probably a designer or marketing guy thought that white would be too "pedestrian" for a MINI... or that it would only look good with either a black or a white roof, but there was no way "in the system" to prevent someone from ordering a combo that offended the designer.

Of course, they let people order PW/W cars (there's one in my town, YUCK!) so that shoots that idea out of the water.

 

Pepper white appears to me to be very similar to the "old English white" that adorned many British cars (especially Austin and Morris, including MGs, AHs, and Minis) in the '50s and '60s. Old English white was an "off white" that seemed to have a touch of cream color in it.

I didn't like that white compared to pure white, but a friend had his MG-TD repainted pure ("refrigerator") white, and it just didn't look right.
