Has anyone added lamps to an aero grille? I'd like to add the PIAA lamps, which come as a kit for MINIs. They supposedly have the same mounting brackets as OEM. But can they be securely added to the aero grille as opposed to the stock grille with slats?

My understanding is that you will have to cut slots in the Aero grille. The standard brackets "pass through" the grille and attach to the metal of the hood.

Look at Silver's post about the red additions (click here) to his car, he is running the DL's and has a Aero grille.

you do have to cut holes in the aero grill, but the back of the grill shows you where to cut it. the brackets do not even mount to the grill, they just pass thru the grill. so what ever grill you have will work. good luck.

the factory mounting brackets, are connected to the underside of the hood by 3 rivets. just make sure you cut the holes big enough for the brackets to get through, and a little bit of extra room, so should your lights move, it's not rattling against the side of the grile

Don't use rivets. They work them selves loose making the shaking even worse

Thanks, y'all! Much more helpful than the "other" forum...Now I understand the procedure, and I've ordered the lamps (PIAA #5430, $225 from Import Performance; free shipping).
Happy holidays!

Thanks, Mexminime!
I found it, and printed it, here:

(part 9, page 16)
I'll keep it handy when I install them next week.
