Here is an option I'm using with the rear seats, if you are looking for a mount that works on the front rail check out RAM Mounts:

This just popped up in my iPad reading this morning. Might be a worthwhile option!

jwedding, that looks interesting.
I am working on another version of an iPad rail attachment that utilizes the original MINI base accessory parts. Some on this forum have expressed interest in that, so I am attempting this next, just waiting for some parts to come in. This mod is targeted to the rear section of the rail, no room in the front section with the Connected joystick.

I def'y think there's something to using some of those RAM pieces with the base from the stupid phone holder that was thrown in the car. I'll be curious to see what you come up with!

New Mini I Phone holder…perhaps a better use of the sun glass holder.

Flyer53, Love the use of the eyeglass case for the iPhone, the carbon fiber treatment is awesome & those 19's with the MINI center cap installed look factory! Very nice mods!!

Thanks! Enjoyed your mod as well for the I phone on the rail. Ram makes some great products. Have used plenty of them. Just was looking for a way to keep the phone out of site, especially for quick run into the store without having to take the phone with you or not needing a place to hide it. I have the armrest out...thought I would miss it more than I do. I do miss a place to store things. Have another armrest ordered (without cradle wired), planed on using that for the rear seats.. We'll see. I noticed on another forum that the 3rd cradle for the I phone 4 is out.. But still does not do all that the supplied Y cable supplies us. Thanks again for you comments.

Flyer53, I'm interested in the second accessory armrest too. Will it need to be fixed on the rail or can it slide to any position?
I like the idea of an empty armrest(without cradle base), this way you can mod it to your liking with an extended Y cable & possibly position it on the rail where you want it.

With my phone holder, if I had a black iPhone case, the phone would be just about invisible from the outside looking in. The large E-brake lever & armrest practically conceal it

Right now, I'm thinking since my dealer still owes me an iPhone4 cradle, I may opt for the second armrest instead
I just assembled my latest version of an iPad mount utilizing the stock MINI rail accessory base & some RAM mount parts this past weekend. I'll post some images later today.

Very cool. Does it go far enough forward to be useful while driving? Or is it purely a storage thing?

Thanks…tippykayak While motoring the case will slide up all the way until it hits E brake handle. If brake handle is engaged..the side of the handle will make opening the case a bit tougher..just as if you were using it as a normal eye glass case and will not stay open..again thats only when brake is up. Case can also be slid to the rear seats for use with the passengers preferred ipod/iphone..etc. Of course still needed to be controlled with the joystick up front…but i'm working on that as well.

I really want to get mine on a gooseneck and a Y-cable extender. Right now, I have a short gooseneck that comes up from the cigarette lighter, and that works OK, but it has a built-in charger, so I can't use the Y-cable with it. And I'd like a longer gooseneck.

I'd get a gooseneck that goes in the cup holder, but I'm already pining the lack of decent cupholders. A conundrum.

Used a gooseneck as well for a while…but i was not comfortable leaving it out in the open every time I stepped out of the vehicle.
Ram mounts makes some real quality items if interested. True with the cup holders…that was one of the reasons for removing the armrest…at least until a cradle that works is available. Without it theres plenty of room to slide the movable ones around.

FYI - RAM already makes a similar product. The Quirky one is still trying to get a minimum commitment number before manufacturing (I believe).

Here's the link to the RAM version:
