I like it, but it could come across as a ricer body kit that needs finish paint.

1st: if you do it, purchase new bumper covers and get them painted. That way you can go back to pure silver without any difficulty and without needing to get the black bumpers color matched silver.

Front and Rear views look pretty good. The black roof, silver mid section, and black bumpercovers are a nice effect. That said, I'd be curious to see a side view. The black bumper covers might not be so kind in that view.

It's creative though. Props.

Dave

D,
I think it could be done well, along with the wheel arches and side skirts to match the same black. Keep whatever chrome from the grilles that you can for contrast.

The black bumpers offset the black roof and mirrors. That's why I think it is OK.

I really like the way your wide center stripe looks that I feel that the black bumpers would really detract from it. What about doing some sort of interesting black decal work on the sides of the door, etc?

As a wild guess, I could imaging having "Cooper S" written in black decals like some of the old porsches have?

I agree with DiD. I have to see a sideview mock-up before I can weigh in. I do think it is interesting, especially if you paint the wheel arches glossy black, as well. More pics, please, D! Tee hee!

Here's one of the only side shots I have
I'm not sure whether I want to keep it or sell it ... or what?
It's a rocket for sure...but as I said... I'm bored w/ the looks at least ...I guess.
I'm not a fan of the aerokits... as they are a bit tooooo much for my taste.
I really like the black gloss painted plastic fender flairs...but the cost and time to accomplish it ..seems tooo steep. All the plastic parts are less than $200( from classic)...but the painting and labor is close to $800 here locally in NY from someone who I know will do a great job. It just doesn't make sence to me ????
The PS or Black painted bumpers from e-bay cost bout $200 delivered and as vbubdoug volunteered/stated.... we could do the whole job in 4 hours or so .
I'm not complaining... just need a direction guess.
I certainly have a few options...just don't know what path is ... gonna ...fly

Peace,
D

Nice idea Dennis, I'm actually doing the same thing with thoughts on changing the look of my PS/PS for 2004.

I reworked your pics and toned down the black a bit...

Looks like the old, heavy, five mile an hour bumpers that many cars had when the bumper requirement first came out. I'd say don't do it.

Dennis,

Methinks that is a great idea to go with black bumpers. If you feel that the front and rear are too disconnected paint the plastic trim around the wheel wells and along the rocker panels the same gloss black. You have a lot of potential with the Black and Silver combo. Do It!

HAppy Holidays Denis! I'd have to say Na with the black bumpers, etc. You'd probably do better with some graphics. Too much black with the silver in between might look like a quarter driving down the highway sideways. Or an alien spaceship. Might go over big near area 51 though?? Best Regards Dave

to buy the painted bumper option on a civicHB...

Hey D,
I like your car the way it is. If you do it, I like more black under the doors, i.e., bottom of car. For example, you could paint the bottom of your doors black to match the higher black in the front and back. Also, you may want to consider adding (when they come out) the black carbon fiber hood and also hatchback and doors. Or you may just want to repaint your whole car. Or you may want to consider adding more graphics and decals. I personally like the look of the wider fender flares and plan on that down the road -- don't know if I'll leave them black or paint them the color of my MINI, which is IB/W, and I want light white wheels. You may want to re-do the interior, too, i.e., seat covers, etc. The longer you wait to do anything, the more options and aftermarket parts you will have to choose from. Take your time and enjoy thinking about all your options.

D,

I agree with this.... I had Cooper Flags make me a black COOPER S that fills the door (my MCS is LY/B). The black stripe runs from the front fenderwell to the back fenderwell and the COOPER is the yellow door. I think it looks good.

Cooper Flags is going to put it on their site when they get a chance.

The MINI front and rear bumpers integrate very well with the car by default, and your center stripe serves to reinforce that look. The black bumpers would be a 180 degree departure, attempting to divorce the bumpers fromt the rest of the car, which hearkens back to an era when bumpers were afterthoughts that detracted from cars anyway and needed to be dressed up either by chroming or painting them black.

Your center stripe is excellent; think twice before ruining your MINI.

i could see if you wanted a two-tone look with the black down the sides too, maybe.
but otherwise not my bag.

Sorry, put my vote in with the "no's". Black accents, maybe, but not the entire covers.

COOPER S side stripe -- if you would like to see mine go to Cooper Flags, click on enter, choose photo gallery, then bonnet, boot and side designs, my car is the LY/B in upper left corner - click on picture to enlarge.

Just for the record... the "No's" are as welcome as the "Yes's"
I thank you all for your honest input...

I'm not sure at all anymore as to what I'm gonna go forward with....

I'm wait'n for the correct remake of my number "53 in black & pure silver" from Cooperflags....for the doors.
Maybe that will change the look and I'll be better able to decide on the black bumpers or not.... at that juncture.
Again..... many thanks for all the comments

I do appreciate the input...alot

Peace,
D

Dennis-- I've read and re-read your comments...
and I'm thinkin'... Have you thought of getting a new MCS?

At a certain point, the artist should put down his brushes,
remove the painting from the easel and start a new painting...
and with it comes enthusiasm a-new.
(Many assume the excitement is with the finished painting,
but this is not true, not for the painter.)

Just my 2c, Dennis... and, Seize the Holiday!

God speed.
