the driver side interior door handle on ym 02 cooper s no longer functions, i must reach out and open the door from the outside. how can i fix this, i have never romoved the inside of the door before

 

anybody? i just need to get the inner door panel off

 

It's a several step process.

First, remove the armrest pad. Slide a thin flat object between the pad and the plastic piece its mounted on. There is a tab in there that needs to be depressed, and then the armrest will slide off toward the front of the car. Be careful not to damage the retaining clips at the edgesof the armrest when removing.

Remove small reflector with a prying tool and the screws from the interior panel (three along ellipse of door and one behind reflector).

Go around door trim panel with a plastic prying tool to release panel clips.

Raise door trim panel clear of door lock and relase from top clips by pulling horizontally. Guide door handle out of trim and remove panel.

Reverse process to install.

BEWARE:Trim panel plastic clips are easily damaged and it is recommended to have extra clips on hand before starting. Also, clips are color coded and not interchangeable.

 

^^^ what about the inside handle repair, do i need to replace a part inside the door?

thanks, i've had the inner doors panels off before (door handles painted)
i just needed to see what i needed to repair the inner handle & the thread you sent me to, was perfect, thanks again
tommorrow i'll pop the panel & re-attach the cable, hopefully that will be all it is & i'll be back in bussiness
