Mini/Outmotoring Gauge Panel question...

So recently I've made some electrical and lighting additions to my mini and after some failed attempts to create a switch box mount under the factory switch line, I've come up with the idea to get the gauge panel and drill 1/2 inch wholes in between the two gauge wholes

I was wondering if anyone had ever done this or if someone could tell me if its possible to drill wholes big enough for switches

Thanks!

If so, that would depend on the switch. Some SPST toggle switches are large in the back, the part behind the dash you dont see. There are three potential areas for room as shown in the photo below. Usually the push button style switches are not so large so that would be the direction I would examine.

I would also have the gauges installed while matching up the switches as well. It could be a really close/tight fit.

I can't find the picture of it, but I put two radio shack switches (automotive one-way toggles) in mine, one on top of the other in the center to control the gauge dim and on/off. I was having trouble getting my oil temp and pressure to auto dim. They are Cyberdyne gauges. I have to manually dim the gauges, and then turn them off then back on to undim. It is just part of my start up routine. Kind of fun flipping switches.
