wow! that turned out really good! and no biggie about the stripes, i had to take mine off. white doesn't stay clean very well as a bonnet stripe. i really like the set you have! i wish they would look good on my cooper.

i plasti-dippd my grill a couple months ago and theyre holding up just fine. i did a good amount of coats to insure a nice finish. i also did the headlight rings, door handles, gas cap, emblems and side scuttles. all holding up fine. here are some pics:

I didn't unscrew mine. Then again mine may be different because I have an R53 Facelift. I don't know offhand if that's the case.

Anyway, I carefully snapped out all of the plastic tabs that hold the grille into the backer assembly. I used a few flatbladed screwdrivers on the tabs to pry them out. It took awhile mainly because I was afraid of breaking something at first, you will need to be careful but firm.

I was too chicken to try to take off my headlight rings, so I masked and sprayed those in place. I have a great way to do that, if anyone's interested.

mesh

Cavalier,

look at my signature. I bought my r53, and it came with a mesh grille on it. I think it is actually something one of the past owners (im the 6th) got from a hardware store, and bent it to fit in place of the lower grille. Sounds sketchy, but it actually looks really cool if you ask me. Then again, i do have a black car. but you might consider this, as a vastly cheaper option, and you might even be able to find a black one, if not, painting that stuff is no problem at all. i can take more pictures and what not if youd like.

the look of the aero grille is a lot more different then you would think. at least that is what my conclusion is.

i got mine from moss and when i got it i was kind of mad because it was a gloss finish but it ended up looking great.

id suggest lookin at other minis in person that have the mesh and see what you like. i know im sure youve seen pictures but its best to see in person.

also, with the mesh, it makes it look a lot more unique i think simply because the grille is, afterall, a different grille.
