My MGP CALIPER COVERS

I installed these a few weeks back but just had the chance to snap some shots.

Yes, they are slightly douchy/ricey but I think they looks nice and, to be honest, they aren't really trying to look like phony calipers.

Anyway, a much better option than painting your calipers.

I understand the reaction, and trust me I felt the same way at first, but they do look nice (IMO) and what's the difference between these and painted calipers?

Anyway....

Interesting, I've never seen smooth covers like that. I've got mine painted (after 110k that OEM silver looks nasty with baked brake dust).

Any risk of them getting the pads hotter and keeping the hotter, not that you're getting them so hot that it's effecting performance in street driving, but might want to keep an eye on the over time incase they cause pad wear. But they look like the sit off the caliper a ways (hard to tell with the wheel on) so maybe a non-issue.

Seriously??

If you're asking that question, then there's no need to even answer it then...

Obviously you have your own reservations because you even said yourself....

They're not? They're red plastic covers to make it look like you have bright red Brembo calipers... sure seems that way to me.

Look, I'm not knocking them, they're not my style... you're the only one that has to like them so as long as you like them, who cares what me or anyone else thinks.

When you post pics on a forum, expect to get reactions from people who love what you did and from people who hate it... it's nothing more than that... opinions.

Glad you like them.

Geesh.... Chill. I just asked a question, I didn't try to deny you're right to an opinion.

1) They're not plastic

2) They're not trying to look like a "big brake kit" any more than painted OEM calipers are.

3) I don't give a crap what other people think. I was just sharing my experience and trying to get the "eekers" to tell me why these are really that different than painted calipers. You don't seem to be able to do that with out getting upset, so forget it.

Sorry if you thought I was getting upset. I'm not upset, it's not my car and as long as you like them, who cares?

Maybe my intention got lost in the typing of the response, if so, I apologize.

As far as why the "eek"... it's just that they're covers to give the illusion at first glance that there are big red calipers behind the wheels.

If someone saw the car go by and saw the big red blotch, it would appear that you had brembos or the like.

It's just so posing... it's kind of like seeing the plastic spinner hubcabs on a car, they're suppose to look like real spinner wheels.

You yourself even called them "ricey"... they're (IMO) corny.

Bottom line, I'm glad you like them.... it's your car.

Seriously, if you like them......... heeeeey. But they'd look better on your mom's bicycle, not your Mini. No offense intended ....... just an opinion.

I'm not offended by the hate! I understand.

I just thought orangecrush was angry at me.

No offense taken!

I saw these at AMVIV. They are aluminum and when I talked to the vendor it appears that they spent alot of time on them. I think they would look better in black or silver. To me that would downplay them a bit. Probably easy to clean with a little spray cleaner. I believe they can engrave them with anything the customer would like on them. Don't worry about what people say about them as long as you like them. I am kinda from the old school "if you don't have anything nice to say........", but a little constructive criticism nevers hurts, I guess.

True. I agree. But... how is any of this different than:

1) A barely functional hood scoop.
2) The FAKE intakes all over the JCW body kit.
3) The side skuttles.
4) The FAKE BOLTS on the OEM 2pc wheels.

All of these things are design decisions designed to give the illusion of a more expensive or higher performance component.

I have these in black also, looks way better than plain, and IMO better than painted. I still have my car under extended warranty and do not want to lose the benefit. When I get over 100K I will put a big brake kit on, but for now, looks clean and help reduce brake pad dust on my rims. Haters gonna hate.

It's not any different. However, I have no choice but to accept the fake intakes, side scuttles or barely functional hood scoop, they are on the car when I bought it. The caliper covers are a choice.

BUT, like I said, no hate, just not for me... if you guys like it, more power to you. I like it when people mod their cars.

I made the wing on the back of my car, some like it, some love it and some think it's an abortion.

It's all personal preference and like my wing, my opinion is the only that counts when it's on MY car.

Keep modding...

Mark

Well, that's 100% true.... you must like the way the JCW kit looks despite its form of function compromises.

I agree completely... looks great, completely useless function-wise. (well, I did install the brake duct cooling kit)

I like it.
Thanks.

Point is, 'poser' is in the eye of the beholder, to some degree.

Stay gold...

Uhh my 2 piece OEM webspoke wheels DO NOT have fake bolts. It is a true 2 piece rim.

The difference is that people dont paint their brake calipers to give them a "big brake kit" look, they paint them to give them a sportier appearance. Just fyi.

Yes they are, or at least that is how they appear.
