I found this thread whilst searching the web for this method. Out of interest, how many cans did you use?

Thanks,

Count on 1 can per wheel. You will have a little extra left in each can, but if you use the can right up to the last drop, it will start to sputter and ruin your finish.

Thank you

It's $15 a can over here, hence the question!

masked the center cap before I realized I could pop it out

You should do your Headlight and taillight rings, it would look great.

Okay, so I finally did this to all four of my rims the other day... then, I proceeded to drive 1,400 miles up the East coast from Florida to Massachusetts, my home state. And, I have to say, the wheels are still black! The plasti-dip did peel slightly in a few places, but I plan to run down to the Home Depot in Danvers later on today to grab a can for touch-ups. When I've cleaned him up and repainted him a bit later on I'll shoot a few photos and throw them up here, if I can figure out how.

This is SUCH a cool mod! Absolutely changes the look of the entire car. I painted my brake calipers red a few years ago, and now they peek out from under the spokes and look super badass! Plasti-Dip is the product of the gods.

So if the wheels are just clayed then wiped down with an isopro solution, if you change your mind in a few months, what would it take to get the PD off? Also I've got the crown spoke rims so I've go that little cover that goes on. I'm worried that when I seat it on it will perforate the PD

everything I have ever peeled plastidip off of was pretty simple. usually you just start peeling and use the ball of it to keep the rest comming up (it likes to stick to itself). Comes off feeling like rubbery saran wrap
The hubcap should be just fine. just paint it seperately and then snap it on.

Problem would be trying to get it off gently next time you need them off.

PlastiDip is a lot more resiliant than you'd think (once it sets up). I have knocked a plastidipped rim over on the garage floor without messing up the finish lol

So how are everyone's wheels holding up? Thinking about doing this instead of painting my S-Lites, but if it peels easily I'll go with paint.

About 6K miles and two trips up & down the east coast, and mine are still black as night! (With a few minor touch-ups along the way)

They hold up surprisingly well.

Awesome! This seems like a no-brainer. Time to get a few cans!

Great thread....I'm getting ready to so the same to my wheels.

It's been a few months since the last post...for the guys who have plasidiped your wheels, how are they holding up??

I'm thinking that my car would look better which some satin black plastidiped wheels. What do you think?

The way they are now....

With some photoshop help, they will look like this.
