Maybe getting a makeover: What do you think?

So I am considering a repaint and changing the look of my MINI.

2005 R53 Purple Haze current state:

Potential change. The picture is obviously not a R53... it is a 2008 Justa Cooper, I just used it for the general look.

My main question is, what do you think the surround on the number is?

This car is my everyday driver, so it should be normal enough that people aren't expecting a 17 something to get out with an upside down visor on (you know what I mean).

What do you think?

Thanks,
Justin

Yeah, like I said, "considering". Just wanted to kick around some ideas.

Artichoke is not right, please keep guessing. Thanks!

It looks like an artichoke. Or a pine cone. Maybe a beehive.

If you're going to change anything to your car... I'd switch out the white mirrors/roof/stripes for black ones - it's a small change but would make it look completely different. Black or gunmetal wheels to match. Purple Haze is a rare color, isn't it? Embrace it!

(Ps. I do like the way the stripe is on your lime/black version though.)

The full out painting is pretty aggressive so I am not sure about it either, that's why I am asking for other people's opinions.

What about leaving it PH, but changing the stripes and adding the hop. Maybe white out the wheels, amend the chrome to white/black/carbon/etc.

Really, I am just having fun think of some different options.

No offense...but you asked! Your present car looks pretty good. The drawing has the potential to be all world ugly!

Frankly, Purple Haze is a cool color. Far better than the lime-green on black.

Considered a full vinyl wrap? That might be a way to change the color of the car to something that is a little "wild" while allowing you to possibly resell it later. In MC2 mag there were some ads for full flat-black vinyl wraps with highlights of the base color showing through as accent. Not my style, but might work in your application.

I don't think that web spokes would look good in white either. Just my 2 cents on that one. They would truly be a pain to clean as well!

Good luck in whatever you do.

I agree that "purple haze" or "black eyed purple" is an awesome color.

Agree with those who advised sticking with the current color or maybe going with some vinyl to change it up a bit. I like the roof / mirrors / wheels suggestion - you'd be amazed what a change that can make. I'd consider vinyl rather than paint for the roof and mirrors, though. Your top and paint looks to be in good condition, and a repaint is unlikely to ever be as good as the original paint.

Why not just get the whole car vinyl wrapped maybe?... You could reverse it later on and not have to really dissassemble the whole car for a repaint!... then you could incorporate whatever numbers, ect you like

yeah the car you posted could be a 17 y/o's easy. I do dig the green roof...maybe just try that and black out EVERYTHING else...incl rims

My thoughts are that you should consider painting a mini any way you want, but I would sell the one you own and buy a lightly wrecked one to redo. A totaly repaint will not only cost money, but it will devalue your car. Buyer always assume (correctly) that a total repaint = accident.

Sell your car and get top dollar, then build your dream car. One in need of work can be bought for less and you can use the savings to pay for a lot if not most of the paint work.

Yea, I'd stick with the purple. If you don't like the purple color, please sell your Mini to someone who would want that color and get another Mini (maybe black?). To be honest, that would probably be a lot more cost effective, and that way you could just vinyl wrap/cut decal the parts you want green.

It's a rare color, and it would be a shame to see it trashed.

Btw, as for my opinion on your design, I'm not quite understanding why you'd want hops on a vehicle.....doesn't that kinda scream "I'm a drunken driver"? While I think the green is kinda... immature...for the car you drive, I guess it would be great for parking lots. And it would probably glow in the dark, too!

But seriously, buy a black Mini and sell this one. If you do it right, you'll be close to breaking even and you won't have to dish out all that money on a costly paint job. If you get one that's done right, it'll be several thousands...which is probably what your car is worth alone!

I think HRM's idea is the best one, why destroy the good looking purple car?? Buy the junker then you can paint whatever way suits you, maybe pink and lime green, that would be a show stopper.

Hahaha... This forum is great. You guys crack me up.

Alright, I am not going to paint it. Is sounds like a royal pain in the behind and I agree after digesting the colors that it was a bad idea from the start.

I do think I want to redo the stripes though.

Would it be plausible to remove the bonnet stripes, have a once over done on the paint (like I have seen around here) then do some custom stripes? As you can all tell, I am new to this stuff. The MINI is the first car I have ever been excited about. I went on my first Mini drive today with the Milwaukee MINIs and it was a blast!

Cheers,
Justin

Yeah you can easily remove the bonnet stripes. Mine were removed before it was sold to me since I preferred the naked/clean look.
What do you mean about a once over on the paint?

I think I have heard it called color matching. Basically looks like a real good paint polish and rub down. My only concern is that the paint under the bonnet stripes will look different than the rest of the paint because it has been shielded...

idk

I'd go with white shelby stripes and match the grill with the paint color.

This is not what I think of

Even though I love lime on black, I agree that it's a lot of work and you do have an awesome base color to start with.

That being said, I would consider the following:

PH = Purple Haze
EB = Electric Blue
W = white

remove hood stripes
blackout beltline
scoop - PH
door handles - W or PH
grill slats - W
grill surrounds - PH or W
headlight rings - PH or W
headlight sprayers - EB or W (contrasting the rings)
side scuttles - W with center piece (behind the S) EB
side scuttle S - white surround with EB center
gas cap - W
side mirrors - W
mirror caps - EB
arches/body trim - EB or an EB/W combo

That would be pimptastic. And if you really want you can throw a hop on there.
