Modification back seat/trunk

Has anyone ripped out the back seats and put in a flooring, to make a nice trunk and have a spare? if so, any pics oe how tos? Seems like the back seats and the passenger seats wobble and rattle with the trunk and never use back. Thanks! BTW, I have an 09 JCW

Yup the interior of an 07+S is the same as the 09. You're in good shape!

The whole reason to remove the back seats is to reduce weight not build a huge contraption that is going to add weight but, hey that is just me

I built by own. It took about 2.5 hours total across about two nights. the hardest thing to do was get it cut to fit perfectly. Other than that it was a piece of cake to knock out. Maybe 40 bucks worth of supplies as well. I has sat on it and it has held just fine. I weigh 170 so thats pretty good.

Make it yourself. If you want a spare and dont care about weight, I always thought the idea of mounting a huge full size spare where the seats go would be cool.

Theres a pretty awesome speaker system that takes up a lot of room inside, so the seats where probably removed to clear up more space, not to save weight.

Thanks for the advice. I have to say that it could be beyond my capabilities or I would have to buy some tools to accomplish it. Do you think that your board dampens the road noise adequately and better or same as premade kit? I just got my mini back from the dealer to fix a recurrent rattle from the latch in the hatch door. It was replaced a year ago and only fixed it for a couple of weeks and this time they said it needed to be lubricated. Also changed from OEM run flats to Bridgestone RE 011s which should help a bit with excessive rattling. I also notice that the front passenger seat shudders over bumps. Wonder if that can be tightened?...

I used a very thin board with an edge to edge vinyl sound layer on top, and I think mine dampens as well as the premade kit, but both are still louder than having the seats. Adding more padding isn't going to fix that.
Having the seats backs in the upright position eats a ton of rear nose from the wheel well and the fuel pump. Its an entire 2 foot high sound wall thats gone. Much of the added noise isn't coming from below the shelf- its coming across over the top. You would need to add more padding around the boot to compensate, not on the shelf. The shelf does need dampening though, the fuel pump noise spills in from there with quite a drone when the shelf is out.

My wife is the 'adequate noise level' test. With the shelf out, shes was an unhappy camper and complained immediately about the noise. After the shelf was in, nothing further was said.

And the passenger seat should not be making any noise.
