Maybe they are hanging back for the 600Hp AWD electric Mini that should have been released already?

It's a tough one though, the sound and feel of a gas engine..... or the 4.0 second to 60mph quietness of electric?????

Maybe it should be a GT-e???

Maybe not just a concept????

So I have been in contact with a company in Huntington Beach CA called Five Axis www.fiveaxis.net and they like look of what I have come up with too.

They were not really looking to make anything for the Mini, but if there is enough interest and serious commitment from us here on NAM (100 people) they may look at developing a full kit.

What this means for us is that we need to spread the word and get feedback as to what we want the kit to look like and what price point we would be willing to pay for a custom kit.

I would think that $2500 for something like this would be fair, seeing as we would be the first to have it.

So let me know what you as hardcore Mini people want to see in a kit, give examples of the styles you have seen on other cars, or do up your own ideas if you have the skills.

If we can come up with something that we all like and are willing to put up $$$ for this may become a reality. If we just dream about it that's all it will ever be.

Feel free to PM me

Cheers

Owen

I would spend that kind of money if the kit was reaaaaally cool. HOWEVER, it would have to utilize BMW/Mini clips, no jerry rigging. I would want it to go on and off like a factory Mini part.

Being in the bodyshop business, I see all too many crappy imitations and I very rarely approve of aftermarket kits... they're usually crap.

This is just IMO but I have two critiques: the front spoiler could stand to be a little higher off the ground to detract from the 'stretched to the ground' look and the wing is a bit gaudy. Otherwise I like it, the rear looks great and I think the front would as well if it wasn't so low. Nicely done either way

Thanks. I'm sure the end product would be more streetable. I don't know if the wing is for everyone, but I might have a go at something. But by the response this thread is getting I don't think this will ever become reality anyway. Dissapointing seeing as NAM is supposed to be for Mini enthusiasts. Maybe they like theirs stock...

I obviously like "different" wings... as you can see by my homemade spoiler.

As far as people getting excited... once you start pursueing what it takes to get it done and get people committed, you'll understand why many of these undertakings are not much more than pipe dreams.

Oh I forgot to mention that these guys make the kits from Urethane like a factory kit. I plan on going to see them in person, just because I have always been interested in the work they do, so when I'm there I will ask alot of questions and see if they use the clips and what the fit is like.

Car looks really good I definitely wouldn't mind if Mini would implement an AWD system.

I would love a option for wider than stock fender flares so that we could go a bit wider for tires, say 255s.

$#@*!!!!! Just when I thought I would never sell my Mini I see this thing.
If it was ever made I don't know that I could afford it, but I wouldn't hesitate a trade in.
Nice work. Have you sent it to MINI USA?

Woa! I guess I should have read futher, Yes, yes, yes if this kit were to become a reality $2,500 is fair enough for me. However, as mentioned the front requires more ground clearance, and the GT Spoiler should be an option. (A bit over the top for me)
Also, the rear bumper flares out at the bottom. Does anyone else feel that it should keep with a Euro look and not a ricey look? (No Offense ment)
It would also be sweat to have an OEM exhaust position option. It will save on the cost of buying a new exhaust, unless your $2,500 estimate includes the exhaust as well. Just my 2 cents. Not given an option I'd still buy the kit.

"...The idea of a $50k MINI just isn't all that appealing to me. Not that I wouldn't WANT one, I just don't think that's how I'd spend $50k..."

Bingo!!!

I'm gonna work on something else for the rear, as that is just a Focus RS bar. Something along those lines for the diffuser though. It could be made with either a center or dual side exhaust cutout. maybe a center one like the Ferrari or the new Lexus.

The wing is just one like the Challenge Mini/ M7 one so I wouldn't even include that in the kit.

I might send it to Mini USA, but I want to get the sides and interior concept done first. Just been busy with other stuff lately.

Bingo!!!
I'd expect it would be a limited run like the GP was and make it somewhat of a collectors item.
Either that or maybe a tuning house special made in conjunction with Mini USA like the Shelby Mustangs (maybe RMW?...) Either way if it was done right it would be a monster to compete with the EVO/ GTR/ Porshe/ RS4 and I think that would justify the price.
If the price is to much for you just wait till some rich dude gets bored with it and buy one used...

Then again it's just an idea at the moment.

I don't think it's that crazy. We can run 235s now with no rubbing I would think a little wider fender could allow us to go to 255.

Better out than in

Contacting Mini

I contacted Mini once with an idea (no need to disclose the idea) and received the canned CYA response below. I replied by saying that I understood that Mini would not be reviewing my idea and that if it was implemented it would not be related to me contacting Mini.

Thanks for contacting MINI. We appreciate your desire to work with us on making the MINI the most loved conveyance on four wheels.

It is our company’s policy not to accept unsolicited ideas. We regret any disappointment this may cause and hope you understand our position. Thank you for thinking of MINI.

Ya need to stretch the fender lips to fit 245 tires. Think of the old R5 turbo!
