Light in Sight

For the money, this is the most useful "mod" I have done to my MCS.

One of the first things I noticed after I bought my MCS is that I had trouble seeing stop lights. They were blocked by the roof and usually by the rear view mirror as well. I would only know the light turned green by either straining my neck to see the light or when the car in back of me honked their horn.

After sticking the Light in Sight at the top of the windshield the problem is instantly fixed. If you're having the problems seeing stop lights you should definately check it out. (I dont work for them, I'm just really happy with it)

+1. Put it in my first MINI after about a month, as soon as I read about it. Made sure it came out and into the new one when I traded!!

Thanks for this advice. Ordering one tonite, looks like a worthwhile "modification".

Solution: pull up a little closer and look out sunroof!

#2 Solution-Stop short of the stop line so you can see the traffic signal

I cannot endorse my solution: be born to short people with really strong genetic traits.

Grrrr.

That method works, except for lights that need you to be X close or they will never change.

All I can say is that it works. It's simple, effective, and saves me aggravation on a daily basis. I bought it because it was the solution to a problem, not because it looked pretty.

Don't knock it 'til ya try it! It's barely noticeable if you're not looking for it; and it's worth what little notice it does get for the chronic taco neck it saves. I mean, I've got traffic lights just between home and work that I'd have to stop 2 or 3 car lengths back to see without straining (real car lengths, not MINI lengths). They don't believe in hanging them near eye-level on opposite sides of intersections around here. It's usually 4-way lights strung across the middle of the road, which means they have to be up high so's not to get bonked by HAV's (huge-a$$ vehicles).

or stay where you are and have the kids in the back seat spy through the sunroof! It's only a problem when they disagree.

Seriously, does it have to be mounted a couple inches below the roofline or can it placed to the very top of the windshield? The site shows it below and that does make it look obvious and cheesy - and maybe even in the way.

I have to admit, I thought the light in sight was silly. Then I put one in my car just to show that we sold them. Then I found myself actually using it, but didn't notice till I swapped cars with a friend for a week, and found myself missing it. I never realized I was using it as much as I was.

+3 on the light in sight. (one for me, my old man, and my brother in law)

Best $20 spent on a $1.25 part.

Since people have been raving about them, I thought I'd order one to check it out. Ordered Nov. 30. As of yet, no sign of it. Perhaps they have to hand cut the fresnel grooves.

Mine is right at the top of the windshield. It's barely noticable.

I thought that too.
Then DS told me that DH was making him stand up through the sunroof at traffic lights.
I ordered one right away and it is great!
It is right up against the top of the windshield and I don't even notice it when I'm not at a light.
I just need to remember to remove it tomorrow morning, before my second replacement windshield is installed...

Anybody ever found something like this cheaper at an auto parts store?

If you have a e-recycling/collection center where you live, go and see if they have any rear projection tv's. there's a huge frensel lense inside the cabinet. Pop the front bezel of the tv and pop it out, then cut that down to size.

Another +1 for LIS.
As for scabbing on from a dead projection tv... that would mean putting a cut piece of glass on the inside of my windshield, and holding it there with spit. Not a good idea.

I've had one on my MINI for 4 years or so....I give it a strong "BUY". It may not be perfect, but it works, and solves a problem that is a pain in the neck.

+25. These LIS threads pop up on a regular, recurring basis...

This little beauty likely has the highest percentage in terms of "bang for the buck" of any single MINI mod you can make. Cheap, easy, and effective.
