I have the install instructions for upgrading the wiring harness for use with the clear brake lights.

I know how to remove the knee bolster on the drivers side, but I have no idea what the A pillar/door strut trim consists of and if the passenger-side bolster is as easy to remove.

Looking for help before I break something.

Thanks,

Mike

What year is your car? I got mine April 2003 and I didn't have to do any wiring changes for my clear taillights.
I was pretty sure that wiring was only needed for the 2002 models.

2004.

I added the lights w/o upgrading the wiring and they are not a strong red, slightly red/pinkish. I had read that upgrading the wires either:

-deepens the color to red
-allows the top bulb to work when braking
-both

So, I have the harness and may send it back or see how much it costs to get it put in at the dealer.

It may make them stronger...I didn't think of that.
But, I'm pretty sure it won't make the top one light up. I used some wire and crossed over wires 1 and 4, but I'm sure you've seen that mod. Just a quick 2 minute fix that in my opinion all MINIs should have done.

I took my box with wires to the dealer and they weren't sure what it was for. I guess if it hadn't been after hours the mechanics would have told me what the wiring harness was for.

The harness doesn't cost extra, it came automatically with the clear taillights. Did you get charged for it?

I paid $232 for the lamps, $98 for the wiring kit(dealer parts guy called it an Upgrade kit) and did not go for the $28 reflectors.

What did you pay for the lights and wires combined?
