Interior/Exterior New Hella 500 Driving Lights!
i wish i had used black magics, but for 40$ vs xxx$, i took the cheap way out.
the only thing i dont like about that look on the upper grill with the big hellas is that their height comes above the hood, which disrupts the flow imo.
and using the side of the grill thus also blocks the intake =\

A driving light should be mounted higher, inline with the main headlights. Most states, maybe even federal regulations, restrict auxiliary lights from being mounted above the center line of the main factory lights.
Fog lights should be mounted as low as possible to reduce the back scatter of light reflecting off of the water particles in the air, that make up fog. Low mounting also reduces reflection from rain and snow. Yellow lenses also minimize the perceived glare in reduced visibility conditions.
The normal reason to have driving lights is to extend the range of the stock headlights. Low mounting them will reduce the usable range of the light and compromise it's effectiveness as a driving light.
Wiring driving lights to operate at the same time as the fog lights would compromise the effectiveness of both lights. In fog the light distribution pattern of a driving light would dramatically add to the glare because the beam is designed to illuminate above a horizontal line. By shining up more light will be reflected off of the water particles of fog or rain and back into the drivers eyes.
Because of the light pattern, driving lights should never be used when another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction or when you have another vehicle in front of you in your lane. If they are not activated by a separate switch the only other choice would be to have them operate with the high beams.
Well my goal is to mount additional lights to help me see while driving. So I'm planning on mounting a driving light to be shined almost exactly where the standard low beams are. Basically my joey mod has now reduced my light output and I'd like to see a tad better. It is also a possibility that after putting my headlights back on the car they are now aimed too high reducing what I can see - I have to go out when it is dark and figure it out.
