The only part I can't get off is the side light chrome. Is there a secret to getting the chrome out? It seems they made every other piece come off easily.

Chrome Light Trim

Hi all,
i removed the gas cap, rear tail light chrome trim as well as the front headlight chrome trim also. it was all pretty simple after the help from the forum..THANKS! now its ready for paint. i used a small flathead screwdriver for the rear trim to pry out, and used the same flathead for the gas cap and front headlight trims. just pressed in on the front black clips till they popped through. thanks again!! question now is, has anyone added a sub and sub amp to a 2009 mini? im looking to do so using the roadstersound mini enclosure with a rockford sub and a JL G1700. how easy is this to accomplish? thanks again!

Thanks to the info in this thread I just got my gas cap off. I used a small screwdriver to depress a small top on the inside top and turned the cap counterclockwise looking from the outside. Came off easy-peasy.

I replaced the chrome one with a white one to match my Chili Red/White JCW with white OZ wheels. Looks great. I'll post pics later.

does the R53 chrome tail light trim come off the same way as the R56?

Just looked @ my tail lights and the chrome is inside the lens. don't want to take them apart---
thanks anyway

beltline trim ???

Im going to guess the trim goes around the entire car??? if so i pulled them all off and undid the rubber from chrome and painted it then snapped it all back together, no way in hell was i masking the entire car and painting the parts on the car..... reassembling the pieces back to rubber was NO FUN AT ALL !!!! but still i feel better then masking the entire car.... ANYONE else remove this do it this way or was the masking the POPULAR choice ????

I don't think anyone has actually done the masking the whole car yet. I did the hatch just to test it. it's really not that hard. You just have to take your time. I think masking off the entire car is a lot easier than pulling the beltline off.

^^^The dealer told me it would not be something you would want to try. The piece on the hood and quarter panel slip off and the metal comes out of the rubber piece of cake, but everything windows around the car is clipped on and even the techs get a broken clip or 5 that requires ordering a whole new part.

I got the Lamin-X on the front lights, fogs, side markers as well as the rear fogs, lights and markers.. not easy to do & takes time to cure. i just got it done a few days ago and it looks pretty good so far. i got the gunsmoke all the way around the car. heres a few pics..sorry for the quality not being as crisp as anything else ive posted, but htey were taken with my iphone..

It is funny how hard something is until you do i the first time. The gas cap and the headlight rims were such a pain in the butt until the process "clicked" Anyway. here is my progess so far.

Laid down about 3 or 4 coats so far. Letting them sit for 30 minutes then I will re-install.
