Center stack

Hey all..

I literaly just ordered my 09 Laser Blue JCW Hardtop. I opted not to get NAV because the car is already expensive and I dont want a fixed unit because I have other cars and can use my Garmin..

Anyhow.. the question is.. The place where the volume button is leaves something to be desired.. Has anyone done something with this area?

Thanks,

Craig

I think most of us find the Multifunction Steering Wheel most helpful for volume control and other functions. Other than that, some slight adjustment in getting used to the car and I think most of us find the **** is fine where it is for turning the radio on and off.

Its not where its located its more the blank plastic around it.. Thats literally the only complaint I have with this generation.

Look on Aesthetic Creations website for some vinyl 'domed' overlays. They have various designs that fit really well over the area such as flags, and checker. I got a gloss black one that matches my Piano Black dash. Just beware they are a two person shop and it can take a while to get you order shipped. It was a six week wait for these.

How are going to mount your GPS? I highly recommedn the Kuda mount. It looks OEM and puts it right in your line of sight. Very conveinient. There are ,ultiple thread on NAM with lots of great pictures. Here is the link to AC

It's good to identify options to make your MINI fit your taste perfectly. That said, you might wait 'til you have your car and drive it a bit before making a final decision. The controversial center stack really works fine "as is." The black surrounds simply vanish and adding a treatment only calls attention where it doesn't belong....the fascia, not the controls. In fact, the black surround, imo, helps make the silver controls easier to identify when motoring....I believe this gets at the rationale behind the design. This is my viewpoint on the matter.....the other interior finishes are too nice (I have English Oak) to compete with in a lesser fashion. Best to let the center stack just vanish....the other surfaces are much more visible.

Okay, that's my view, but someone else will feel differently and the right of an owner to customize their MINI as they wish is a given. I'm just offering a viewpoint for consideration as you move forward.

This is something I've been debating on doing myself, but my interior is black... I mean all black. Black cloth seats, piano black interior surface. I hope they never take away piano black. But for me, it's really a question of weather adding a graphic to the center stack would make the interior pop, or detract from the overall effect.

Like all things with the MINI tho, it's a personal decision. This car is all about you-ification.

What I'm planning to do is print out the design I want from AC on a piece of paper and tape it to my center stack with some blue painter's tape for a few days and see if I love it or hate it. I think that will help me make up my mind, and that way I'm not committed if I end up hating it.

gokartride: I truly appreciate your input. I am actually doing research in advance for the next 6 weeks before my car arrives. As mentioned, this is the one thing that bothers me on this model so I am sure I will be doing something about it. What.. I am not sure but everythiing will be ordered AFTER I get the car and have a clear idea what I want to do..

My seats are blue and black and my dash trim is also blue so adding a union jack could be too much... so I am thinking.. custom "monochrome" union jack may look cool but not be as flashy.

Good luck getting anything from this supplier. I ordered the center stack checkered dome and other parts from them on March 14 and have not yet received anything. They are s-l-o-w in delivering

It's a two person shop, like someone else mentioned, and last time I checked, they note the particularly long wait time when you order. 6 weeks seems to be about the norm, it's all custom work. I've never heard of them NOT completing an order, just people cancelling them because it took too long.

When I ordered an exhaust from Japan for my old car, it took two months to get here. On the back of a drunken sea turtle, no doubt.

JudgeS, that looks pretty sweet.

I'd like to see what the carbon fiber and monochrome union jack look like before I were to go ahead and order it for my Mini.

Mines from AC, I have to say the 3D domed stickers they do are very high quality, much better than I expected. Close up it looks nothing like a sticker and does a good job of matching the look of the dash pieces as far as the laminate goes (thick and high gloss). My only complaint is that it took 2 months to get, but that was last year.

Look in my gallery- I have photo's of the Black Union Jack center stack & arm rest decals- I got them from AE, and while they did take a while for delivery, it was worth the wait!

It'll be worth the wait!

I just noticed you're in Bucks County, PA- have you ever heard of PhillyMini.org? It's a great, well organized Mini Cooper club- check out www.phillymini.org - they do great rally's throughout the Delaware Valley, from Delaware, Philadelphia and surrounding counties to the Pocono's-

My Audi clubs favorite GTG is alway Nockamixon State Park in Bucks, will be doing a GTG there on Sunday May 17th. I'm actually bringing the MCS though. Anyone interested is more than welcome.

I got the interior mirror cover & outside mirror covers in England.

There is a Mini dealer in Blackpool England that is good about mailing to the US: http://www.derekwoodmanmini.co.uk/

Interior is about 30 British pounds, and the exterior about 90 pounds, plus there would be shipping....
