I put an aftermarket stereo in my Cooper, however the light in it is a blue light. I don't think I'm going to change the tach/spedo led lights, however i would like to change my stereo lighting to orange. would this be any different than changing the leds in the gauges?

It is exactly the same -- replace existing LEDs with different color ones. Ian Cull (GBMINI) changed some of the ones on his aftermarket headunit: http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2007/01/cha..._an_alpine_hu/

depends where you are.

Ive got a place to do it now, so if you make the trip, ill rip your whole car apart if you want... and put it back together, or course.

EDIT: eh.. your in texas. your decision.

I'd actually like to take part in this too, im pretty good with a soldering iron, but i dont feel comfortable doing this to my MINI without seeing someone else do it first. Plus this just isnt in my budget right now (gotta make this stupid thing quiet again...)

The reason it is "exclusive" is not because people want to be the only ones with something unique(well, maybe the asshats), but because if you screw up, your looking at ~1500 usd to replace the parts you screwed up.

Also i think someone above asked if they were ok to remove the tach; yah your good. dont start the car without it cause your mileage wont reflect right, and strange things will happen. I had mine out with the car off, and the brake lights stayed on cause the center speedo was not in. strange eh?

If you want a step by step, let me know. If you trash your speedo and tach, you have no one to blame but yourself. Also, i will not pay you for a new part cause you futzed it.

Also, for the love of, er, ANYTHING; Learn to solder before you take it to some SMT led's. If you dont know what that means, you dont belong below the user interface of your vehicle. Keep going to the dealer and jiffy lube, and enjoy it stock.

lol exclusive, thats funny!! If anybody needs help let me know! My mini got stolen so I haven't been on here in a while. I have done more than a few and am still doing them if you don't want to crack open your speedo/tach.

If you just have some questions or need help with it shoot me an email here or at curativetouch@massagetherapy.com or call 813-545-1455.

Quick question:

How many LEDs does the tachometer and speedometer have?
Trying to get an idea of how many to order, and dont have enough time to take them apart and figure it out!

Thank!

Anyone thinking of contacting Joes14 to have some LED work done, DON'T. He told me it would take 2 weeks. It has been more than 4 MONTHS and he is no longer replying to any emails or phone calls.

just going to go out on a limb here....

the post he made was in 2010... almost a full 2 YEARS after he posted it. Peoples lives go on man. he probably even has a different car.

For a while there, i was doing LED mods for other people. But... the thing that put me off was that they wanted me to come to them, and not compensate fairly. I'm fine with that sometimes, but some people think 75 miles one way is no problem - Which obviously isn't for them. Unfortunately, at 55cents a mile(what a company pays its employees normally)... that's 82.50. That does not include "My" labor - which is about 2 hours...(40 an hour), plus cost of materials(about 15 bucks if you supply the LED's). That's 177.50. for me to come to you, and solder some LED's. You want to pay me how much? 40 bucks at most?

Nah. Ill pass.

Mail me the parts, pay pal me 70 bucks, and ill do it for you.

You're right, he's no longer a MINI owner, but he said he still does LED soldering for all sorts of car models. I sent Joseph Bednar (Joes14) my speedo and tach along with $150 money order. He is apparently going to just keep my stuff and money. Just a heads up for all who do not want to be ripped off.

If I can locate another speedo and tach I will take you up on that offer. It's just that I've already put approx $300 into getting the first ones changed, and I am hoping that he will notice me bad mouthing him on the forums and maybe he will contact me again(doubtful).

wow dude.

your stuff and a money order. i'd get a hold of the police.
If it were me, I'd be visiting the guy at his door stop, even if he was a few states away.

I'm in CO and I shipped it to Richmond, VA. So that's a no go on ringing his doorbell. I doubt the police would do anything either.
