Which one should I do first?

Hey Guys, So this guy offered me TWO gauges (Boost gauge and EGTemp) with the pods and wires for $300. And i also just received my Alta 15% Pulley and MiniCorsa offered $200 for installation. so the problem is I'm low on budget because of the bills. So i have to choose one. What do you guys think i should do? ><

I'm a bit confused. I thought 1st gens were all supercharged, and 2nd gens were turbocharged. So why would you need a boost gauge for a supercharger, or a pulley for a turbocharger?

People use boost gauges to measure the boost produced by superchargers just like they do with turbochargers, so there's nothing out-of-place about a boost gauge in a supercharged car.

But unless you're constantly changing things around in your engine and evaluating the results of your changes, I don't think a boost gauge has much day-to-day utility other than the "gee-whiz" factor.

Same for measuring exhaust temperature in a relatively stock street-driven car - why bother? Given the choice between those two particular gauges and a pulley, I'd go for the pulley in a heartbeat.

Pulley.. You could install the gauges yourself. The pulley would need a few hours of tinkering and a puller for said pulley.

Based on Scott's post. Yeah, I would go for the pulley for sure.

Pulley, then save up for the boost gauge so you can enjoy the results visually as well.

+1

My vote for two gauges would be engine temp an oil pressure. While there is a stock engine temp gauge mine rarely seems to move so I wonder how "sensitive" it is. And there is no better indicator of engine health then oil pressure. And since I dont believe there is a low oil indicator on the MINI the gauge would actually be your first warning that you were in trouble because of low oil.

Pulley - definitely. I've got the boost gauge too and as noted in an earlier post it's primarily a gee-whiz gadget.

Comes down to if you want show vs. go.

The gauges don't make the car any faster just a toy not really important in power production. The pulley would actually make a difference.

I say either buy the gauges and install it all your self...it is not too bad and you learn more about your car

If not then try and devise a plan to get it all done under budget...

Pulley. Why wouldn't you want to go faster?
