I had my 2 front lights disconnected when i was installing the kit and started the car just to see... Had a check engine light, which went away when I reconnected the 2 lights. Maybe just one wont give the code, i dont know...

Pre-painted kit makes things a lot easier, although I think I would fear that the shades of paint would be slightly off from the car - especially if the Mini has been through some weather.

Edit: Seems like they match pretty well on yours. How old is your Mini?

 

The different colors might match easier than others.
like pepper white might be easier than say a metal flake color.
