Blackout tape

So... I've decided to black out the grille slats on my 06 JustaCooper.

I spent over an hour last evening researching NAM for the best manufacturer and part number for the tape. I couldn't find a definitive answer on which tape is the best.

I want semi-gloss to match the stripes on the bonnet, not a matte finish.

It needs to be 1 1/8" by my measurement of the slats.

I found this....

http://3m.hillas.com/pc-24548-3172-3...black-1-1.aspx

3M 76302 Scotchcal Striping Tape , Black, 1-1/8 in x 150 ft

...but I couldn't find anything on the website to tell me if it's matte or gloss finish.

Anybody know if this is what I am looking for ? Or is there a better product ? I sure don't need 150 feet of this stuff !

Any particular reason not to use vinyl?

No. But it appears this tape IS vinyl.

Got a source/link for blackout vinyl in semi-gloss black ?

I need to redo the electrical tape grill black out job I did long ago. I'll try getting some of that tape, a smaller roll maybe... I just looked at the price for 150ft. $67 (x_x)

The beltline tape appears to be too thin for the chrome slats on the grille.

vinyl would work. Try going to a local sign shop and asking if they could sell you a small sheet of black. they should be able to almost give it to you. I used to work at a place and we did mainly vehicle wraps. and we had plenty of black to spare.

I'm thinking a roll of vinyl tape in the right width would be so much easier to work with, but I may go that route if I can't find the stuff I'm looking for.

Thanks.

I got some vinyl blackout tape from Pepboys to do my grille slats. It was under $10 for the roll and was just about the right size....and has held up well for the last year. The good think about vinyl tape is that you can redo it cheaply/easily/quickly if you ever need to.

I don't know if you would call the look simi-gloss.....I guess it is. Perhaps a bit closer to satin....but has a gloss to it.

I used the same tape from Pep Boy's It's made by TRIMBRIGHT with a part#of
T9005. It's 1"3/8 by 20' It's like Fastlane said, it's more of a satin finish. My has been on over a year and still looks good. Also very easy to work with.

Hmmmmmmmm.... satin might do the trick. I just don't want the matte look with the glossy stripes so close to the grille.

Thanks to both of you... I'll check that out.

+1 for the Pep Boys Satin finish vinyl tape. Yeah, 1 3/8" sounds familiar and it was around $5. It worked great!
