DIY JCW Aero Kit Instructions?

Hey everyone,
So I've been driving around in my new 2009 MCS (DS/B) and seeing Redbull's photos made me really start to crave the JCW Aerokit. I've spent a little time searching but haven't turned anything up...sooooo.... I'm wondering:

Anyone have DIY Instructions for the 2nd Gen JCW Kit (photos?)?
Installation Difficulty (Always a tough one to answer)?
Anyone know anyplace that has a good deal on kits (painted or otherwise)?

Don't worry Redbull, I won't copy your MCS to the T - you've just inspired me to go with my gut instinct to get the JCW kit on it.

If this is already all posted somewhere just let me know .

If not maybe someone wants to do a JCW Kit install thread? I'm sure there's a ton of people who would be eternally greatful (if there still isn't one this summer when I install mine I'll make it).

Step 1: Remove all the bolts underneath side skirts/rockers(these are held by plastic T screws that is screwed into a splitter). Gently unscrew this as any force inward will push it back in. These easily get stripped by the way so be gentle.

Step 2: Once you are sure that the bolts are off(I believe there are 5-6 screws on the side rockers), gently pry off from one side. I started from the front underneath(right by the wheel well). Gently pry it off and you'll start hearing either popping or cracking sounds. The side rockers are pretty tough so unless you're yanking at it, those sounds are just the clips breaking or giving way. You'll be replacing these clips anyways(I believe the body kits all mount the same way). All in all, there's about 10-12 clips on the side of the rockers and 5 underneath the aluminum "Mini Cooper" door sills. Repeat on other side

Step 3: Unscrew the 4 torx screws holding the front bumper on. These can be found right beside the front grill and on the very outsides of the headlight units(close by at least). They should be obvious. You can refer to realoem.com's picture if you still cannot find them.

Picture found here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...19&hg=51&fg=15

Step 4: There are no screws holding the wheel arches to the body itself. These are just held in by clips. However, at the very front of the wheel arch or the very back(for the rear wheel arch), there is a bolt that attaches the wheel arches to the front/rear bumper. This bolt is similar to the t-bolt/splitter of the side rockers but there's no groove(you have to pry the bolt off).

Step 5: Once both wheel arches are off, you can just remove the whole front bumper. Remember to unscrew the bulbs from side markers(they're on the wheel arches) and also the front fog lights/bottom lights and temperature wire(found on passenger side close to the fog light housing).

Step 6: The rear bumper is also held in place by 4 bolts if I recall correctly. So repeat the wheel arches, and then the rear bumper

Voila! You have removed the side rockers, wheel arches(the back is also the same as the front) and bumpers! The uninstall is seriously very simple. Personally I had a hard time because I had to remove the black trim from the front and rear bumpers(which is a PITA) but the removal of the bumper itself is very easy.

As for kits, call Morristown Mini. I believe they have the most competitive prices. They'll come primed but not painted(you can get Morristown Mini to do the paint-I believe they contract it out anyways). It's cheaper for you to probably find a local guy to paint it though. And before all else, double check with your local Mini dealer who might be able to price match Morristown Mini and help with the paint job.

Wow - Thanks guys - I really appreciate the advice! Based on your write up IzzyG, it should be a fairly laid back process as long as I take my time. Now if the recession would just chill out a little and the weather in WI would warm up... a lot.
