Ok, I need some instructions on how to remove the pannel under the drivers
stearing wheel so I can get to the bolt on the side col. and add a toggle switch. I
also want to know where to buy the parcel shelf. if anyone can help with the
instructions and/or the shelf please post.
Thanks,

Grab the panel at the top of each side and yank toward you. Really.

Get the parcel shelf from Brian at Classic MINI in Ohio. Around $70.

Where the cutout below the steering wheel is, grab and pull down fairly hard.
The bolster is hinged at the bottom and swings down. The top side is held in by 2 "pop-in" posts, they look like cones with ***** on the top. Once you pop the top part out, swing the whole thing down until it's basically horizontal then pull HARD towards the drivers seat.

I got my parcel shelf from Brian and Classic MINI and was completely happy.

I grabbed the center right below the steering column, but be careful you grab the whole thing and not just the flimsy plastic thing that is wrapped around the outside. It will start to pop the plastic parts that hold it together. Fortunately I was putting in a parcel shelf (From classic auto campus... see the sponsor director here on MCO).

I'd get the parcel shelf! It's really worth it. I got it from classic auto campus for $74.24 which includes the shipping.

I believe Classic Mini is listed in the MCO sponsor directory. Just call them up! And another side note - someone at one point mentioned that the heavy molded rubber pad that fits on top of the actual parcel shelf accounts for something like $27 of the price. I don't know if it's an option to leave it out, or if Classic gets them in packages. In either case, I think it's worth the cost, but just a heads up.

I just bought the shelf, rubber pad (yes you CAN leave it out, but why) and hardware from my local Mini dealer. Hey, I'm going to need this guy sometime in the future, why not give him the business now. Total cost $71.00.

Because most dealers charge ridiculously high prices for this stuff and Classic doesn't. You are fortunate that your dealer charges reasonable prices - most of us are not that fortunate.

Yep... when I asked my dealer about ordering it for me I was quoted a price of over $120.... called and ordered from Classic right then and there, still standing at the parts counter at MINI of Nashville.

Ditto, on the high prices. I got mine from Brian at Classic and I plan on getting any other dealer part that I need from them as well. They give you a discount and great customer service.

Hope you enjoy your new shelf. It really should have come from the factory this way, but I am glad that it fits so that we can add it later.

Guess I'll thank my dealer next time I'm in.

That's a shock, because $71 is just the CCA 10-15% discount off Mini list prices (so without the discount it would have been closer to $80)...

... so a dealer up-charging $40 or 50% over Mini list is ridiculous, I'd complain to Mini about the dealer, I'd also complain to the manager. That's outrageous.

Good luck guys

Kev
